@Napleshoosier I can see from the emoji there’s some confusion. Literally. I’ll be more hypothetically clear - say you went to IU and were a student athlete alongside one of the greatest collegiate coaches of all time in his sport. Say you were best friends with his son, who also played for the team, and spent most holidays with their family because you didn’t have a father figure. Say, dog nabbit, if you wouldn’t know it, that friend ended up taking over for his dad and leading the most successful athletic program at your Alma mater into their next generation. Maybe that friend has a front row seat at the table of the athletic department and his dad continues to have a say to future AD’s about how to build a championship program and the type of personality it takes at the helm. And maybeeeee that friend knows you’re a die hard IU sports fan in general and puts you in touch with a few people in high places so he can get you to stop annoying him and his dad for information whenever things are going on. Maybe, just maybeee, that person would have a conversation or two to wish someone, or multiple someone’s, a merry Christmas - that may or may not naturally lead into a conversation that gives this particular someone, some “inside” Information that he chooses to pass along to fans just like him, who he knows care as passionately about this school’s athletic programs. But maybe he thinks to himself, if I type exactly what I just heard on the phone, it’s gonna be pretty obvious to the person I just got off the phone with, that it’s me who is posting information on message boards. Maybe this guy decides to keep it simple but still pass on some interesting info for his online buddies - without risking a stern talking to from the people he considers family and/or a father. Hope this helps clarify. Happy holidays faceless names on a message board I consider friends!

This is his last season coaching IU.

His base of support is eroding. Not all of his supporters are blind to the product he puts on the court and they are coming to grips with his lack of effort in high school recruiting. Consider this my Christmas gift to all of you — Mike Woodson will not be our coach next season.

Barring a final four miracle, yes. It’s been discussed how to transition for the best of all parties.

Sorry my guy. There’s this thing called journalistic integrity. I don’t understand it at ALL… but on an unrelated note, I can only share so much on public forums with my pals without it getting back to my source, and ending our stream of information. So you understand…

PS: Haralson and Mullins may have been the turning point in many eyes.

If Quinn Buckner stays on the BOT Mike Woodson will still not be the coach next year.

So long as you enjoy opening your gifts in March. Ha!

Brother, you’re welcome to check my posting history. Shoot @Chris007 a message or ping ESPZyn on Twitter - heck if you can find Birdman from back in the day, please, pull him out of retirement. We all private message each other to confirm we’re hearing the same thing from different sources. I’m not a troll. I’ve been here a long time. This is anything other than “thinking I have a (little) inside info.” Have a happy Christmas Eve and feel free to block me if you don’t agree with what’s coming from my account. :)

They are going to handle this to give Woodson as much dignity as possible. It’s the right thing to do. But all the trends and all the momentum point to a 4 year window closing with a “retirement” or some other type statement to let the man keep his dignity, hoping and assuming this season doesn’t go completely off the rails. I know the ADMIN doesn’t want to waste a year, and that’s where things get really tricky. Because if we are a tournament team or a bubble team you start getting some portal overlap stuff happening and with a bare cupboard, you need a coach with connections to have followers or build fast. A lot of thought Is going into all this. I personally want to experience March Madness even though I know a Woody embarrassment will come quickly. Needs to be a well oiled machine. All the “kicking and screaming” fan-fic coming to a screeching halt tonight. A real shame.

The wild card in your analysis is Pam Whitten. Like her or not, she's a bad @$$ and wants IU athletics to be what it should be. She set the football program in the right direction, and even Cig gives her credit publicly. I am sure she's thinking basketball is up next as that has the IU tradition behind it. At least I hope so.

    They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

For the love of all guys; it’s his last season. IU is a monster economic machine with incredibly perceptive people in charge. They gave him his four year cycle and now we will move on. I and others have said this so so many times. And it’s been constantly stated because it’s flat out true.

There’s a bunch of us that have been saying exactly this for a good while now. I’m as excited about Christmas miracles as the next guy, but this is nothing new.

I understand what you’re saying, and understand where it’s coming from. But based on Woodson’s attitude and arrogance, I’m firmly in the “scorched earth” camp. I have ZERO respect for the man and what he’s done here.

I was little confused by the reading until I read up further. I usually read from the most recent up! I have no reason to block you or anyone else! I wasn’t trying to get you on the defensive side of things. And I don’t have time to go back through anyone’s post. I just try to read the most recent posts.

    IUFB 2024/25 Portalstravaganza

Cal forum insiders were saying he turned down 1mm from them, and I read a few things talking about 2 from us, so that’s probably close. I’d be curious about what UGA offered. Cal people are pretty pissed at the kid for saying he was “always a bear” at some Call event on December 10 then entering the portal on December 11. So who knows, but he was wanted by a few huge programs, so no way we got him cheap.

I’ll be interested to see how he recruits high school with a full cycle to play with which should really be the ‘26 class. ‘24 was a wash and just keeping who we had, which obviously has an effect on ‘25 + new coach unknowns. We are not an unknown anymore and neither is Cignetti, so ‘26 on is where I think we start to see gains in high school beyond what we are used to. I will say I wouldn’t be surprised to see QB continue to be a portal focus year over year, but I think that market is going to become much more competitive. Guys like Rourke have shown that being productive at a lower level can translate in a big way.

Didn’t know exactly where to put this, but this seems as appropriate a place as any. Feel free to insert your own details because saying anything more would make this a blatant conversation posted word for word and get me in trouble - but Bryson Tucker is effectively using the rest of the season as a showcase for an SEC team with NIL and a better coach who can get him ready for the league. He’s had it with this program and the staff. Sad, because promising five stars aren’t lining up to play for us at the moment to begin with. But fleeing after one year isn’t a good look.
