All these blue checkmark guys say, "Yeah, yeah, call Stevens. You have to but he's not taking the job." On here, we get the drift it's WAY more likely to actually happen. Someone help me understand the disconnect between the 2 views on this. Everyone under the sun that isn't on HERE seems to think it's the most unlikely thing to ever be mentioned. Do we get the damn WHITE WHALE or not?! I'm putting my trust in my guys on this forum!

I would guess the leak is not from the coach’s side, all things considered. It doesn’t give him any leverage.

I understand the “why is THIS the story?” thought, and I am not an insider, nor an agent/lawyer (though we have some of each group here, so chime in if I’m wrong).

I believe the rub is that if he’s fired, he gets the contract, I believe at $1M/year until he’s paid what he’s due. If he retires, he forfeits what he’s owed.

My guess is that he DOESN’T want to be fired, DOES want the whole pot of $, and thus wants to have it both ways.

So the sorts of delays we’re living with are probably negotiations to amend the terms of the separation such that he gets less than he’s owed but also gets to claim he’s retired. And given his status as “one of our own,” it’s probably best for the program to work with him if the number negotiated is reasonable.

Of course, any "retirement" announcement will guarantee Woody getting the full remaining $ on his contract otherwise he would never agree to it.  Mike is dumb but not that dumb.

Not doubting our guys here at all, but believing the GM of the Boston Celtics would leave his job to coach the Indiana Hoosiers is insane.  (I'm a little insane)

Mark Few rockets to #2 on my board. I'm drooling a little thinking what he could do with IU's resources.

Don't get why anyone would want Few.  He's old, has no ties to the Midwest, has never won anything outside of a mid major and frequently gets upset in the tourney.

I look at it as 1.5 million to 10 million. Also his love of coaching coming back. But I might be a IU homer.

I hope you are right; and like you said, it looked good last time as well.  Just not going to get my hopes up like last time.  (Who am I kidding; my Brad Stevens hype is already through the roof)

He’s not number 1 on my list but Few has consistently played a tough non conference schedule and usually fairs pretty well outside of this year. With NIL coming into play he needs to move on ASAP. He’s also been to the title game.

I wouldn’t take Cronin or Few over Pearl and May.
I also like Beard better than Cronin and Few.

and even though I don’t truly believe we have a chance with Stevens,  I’m not sure he’s the best candidate now that he’s been out of college coaching.

Pearl

May/Beard

Stevens
