Seen someone knocking his post season success but he’s made a sweet 16 and final 4 three out of the last 4 years. Anything can happen in a single elimination tourney but those are pretty good results to me

100% this. People seem to put a lot of weight on success in March and I think it should be considered in part. But it's single elimination, like you said, anything can happen. That's what I mean when I say hiring a consistent winner gives you a shot and there's upside there. If he can build a team that's regularly going to the Sweet 16, every now and then you've got the ability to make a run. All you can ask for as a fan. Being able to sustain success and do it at multiple schools is what I want to see.

If May takes this team to a protected top 4 seed, he is absolutely a top 20 coach.

I’m a May fan, got into it with Tyme who was trying to say Woodson was a better coach which… yeah good call Tyme.

But top-20 is a REALLY high bar. May’s results so far have been great no doubt, but I think sustained excellence is required when you’re talking at that level.

The upside with McCollum is too good to ignore.  I wanted Stevens and I'll concede the idea of May over McCollum, but I can't go beyond that.  We're Portland at that point.

I admire your conviction, truly. Because I do love McCollum. I just don't know enough about him to say he could withstand the obviously wonky environment at IU. He certainly could be worth the learning curve if time is afforded to him. And he certainly could be a Kelsey like, 1 year turnaround hire. I would personally like the hire, but I would be more apprehensive about it than May, McDermott, McCasland, Buzz and Cronin. Suppose that's the trade off you take for the potential home run hire. We desperately need to win again... looking forward to the next coach being one who can do that for us.

Just had a long sit down with a buddy getting a full update. As of now the plan is to have brad sign the contract on March 2nd. He wants to essentially finish his season as a GM with the Celtics which mainly ends in March 1st as a GM. The verbal agreement still stands but he does not want any announcement until after that point. So the signing Monday won't occur but this is all but locked down. Contract is 6 years 67 million and brad has an option to extend to 10 years after year 3. Includes promises towards IU funded NIL and assistant pools but I don't know the value behinds those numbers.

Just be patient. Hate me because of Goodman's tweet but there is a reason for all this optimism and it's that Brad still is a verbal agreement with IU and both IU and Stevens camp agree to all contract terms.

BS (not Brad Stevens)

If we get a coach with a near 70% win percentage that makes the tournament every year, I'll be satisfied. I don't know what people want?

Just a comparison…

RMK had a .735 winning percentage overall and .700 B1G winning percentage in his IU tenure.

Overall, including Army and Texas Tech, his winning percentage was.709.

In his 29 years at IU he only missed the dance 4 times and in 2 of those 4 years he won the championship of the tournament he was in, and in the final game in a 3rd.

He was consistently playing into the 2nd weekend of the dance until the last 5 years or so.

Not saying Cronin is the equal of Knight, but always good to put things in perspective.

Cronin is objectively a top-20 coach in the sport. Not sure what expectations are here. The only other realistic candidates who seem to be in that vein are Beard. May is still not quite there but may be in the near future.

He’s top-15ish by any metric. And this list has dudes farther up we wouldn’t want with inflated numbers from earlier in career like Calipari.

Give me a coach that has shown they can coach championship level offense and defense and I’ll be happy. That to me is a top 30 defense and offense. That has you in the mix every year and the tourney run will come if you can consistently do that. Crean could coach offense but his defenses weren’t great. Archie didn’t do either and Mike is pretty mediocre at both.

Weird as it sounds given the million page firing thread, but I’m not sure everyone has an appropriate appreciation for just how badly Woody and Archie have done. A guy like Cronin or someone at a comparable level with the resources here would never, ever, miss the tournament. In a bad year they’re top 1/2 of the conference. That is minimum expectation and there are so many guys who could get that done. I honest to God don’t know who they could reasonably consider who’s not an upgrade.

Oh I promise you that I acknowledge how historically awful these two turds have been.

I'm actually happy that others here feel the same way.  During the Archie years some posters said that we should just accept our new reality.  Now everybody seems to be on the same page and I couldn't be happier.  Team Success happens when everybody agrees it's time for a change

The whole “fans are the problem” argument is laughable and a cop-out. I will die on this mountain because if fans are a problem, then UK, UNC, Duke, Kansas, UCONN, and a few others would be in the same situation as we are.

It all lies at the administrations feet for bad hires, or coaches just not adapting to the evolution of the game. Woodson was an awful hire, and the fans have nothing to do with that failure. Archie was a failure but was not a terrible hire.

The failures of of the last two coaches have nothing to do with the fans. It’s laughable to suggest fans are the problem.

Wait... are you saying that Mike Woodson lied to us? For shame!

Been going back and forth in my head…

What would be better?

A world where Brad is coach and still have to compete against Dusty every year?

Or Dusty is our coach and we don’t have to compete against Brad? Lol

I think I'd take having Stevens and going against May, not that I think that'll happen.

Stevens is a grand slam that sends shockwaves through basketball. May could end up being good and is off to a good start, but he ultimately fares is TBD.

This board is like a cult and the insiders are Jim Jones and and the others are the followers. If you question the leaders then the followers jump anyone who question the cult

All this Cronin talk has me worried….it’s like we are being conditioned!

If Mick turns out to be our new coach I would be disappointed.  The Bearcats can have him back.  They deserve each other.

Fun to think about regardless. I like May a lot and think he’s going to be really good.
