I guess I don't understand why people think there would be so many clandestine meetings in Florida for a deal like this. Yes, I think people would want to meet face to face a couple times, but most negotiating can take place over Zoom these days. There's no reason for people this busy to be wasting hours at a time to fly to/from Florida for a discussion that could be held over Zoom in 30 minutes.

.....when people have money to spend you and are trying to "bring one home" you do things like this at all costs. Dolson is being a complete "Rock Star" right now! If Brad does happen, Dolson deserves a huge raise!

*if Tom Brady had solely played Division 2 football until this year and had never played against an above average NFL team.

So answer my question; other than more D2 tourney success with a lesser D2 win%, what makes McCollum a better choice than Schertz?

Because Schertz also completely dominated in D2 and has a significantly better D1 resume.

1. He does not have a significantly better D1 resume.

2. Ben McCollum is the Nvidia of today’s college basketball landscape. He will dominate the entire market for the next 40 years.

The results are in on the Coaching Candidates Approval Rating (Part 1).  Since this is the NEWS thread, I won't bog it down by analyzing the results in this thread but just put a link to the thread below.  And as promised, I will release a part 2 of the that thread soon.

Schertz was losing in those DII tournaments that McCollum was winning.  On the same stage, McCollum proved to have more Championship mettle.

I fully understand that McCollum is not going to be IU's coach for the very reasons you have mentioned.  But, if this coaching search falls past Stevens and May, there is a good chance that we are back here in 4-5 years, and even a better chance we (IU) regret not more strongly consider McCollum.  He's not going to be available next time around.

I think one thing hidden in all of this is that with IU's NIL, pretty much any coach we are talking about getting will have access to get better players/recruits than at any stop they've been at.  There really hasn't been a shortage of talent under Woodson, just a lack of roster construction DESPITE the fact that the style of play should have discouraged many from coming.
Woodson had the top nil in the conference. Was the third highest paid coach in the conference. Twelfth highest paid coach in the nation. A new coach would probably have a top five salary in the country. This is an attractive job don't let Woodson being horrible change that fact.

Morning fellow Hoosiers. Just wanted to give a quick update on where things are from my point of view.

Obviously we all know brad has his 2 weeks to decide. We knew this would come at some point. From my point of view, i think more things have to go wrong for him to say no then things have to go right for him to say yes. We know he missing coaching and teaching, we gave brad everything he said he needed. His son could come play for him here at iu. Brad knows it's his last chance. I still think Scott will close him.

With that being said, while brad can say yes at anytime, he can also say no. In Scott we trust!

Heard anything on his daughter?  Sophomore in HS so this could be a tough time to move her.

If McCollum is the Nvidia, who is the Deep Seek?

What's the hurry?

Just because fans want an answer.  Immediate gratification R us.

Maybe Brad has to get back from his meeting with the Lealtor checking out houses on Lake Monroe.  Maybe Brad's better half is seeking to become the representative of all of the basketball players on the Pacers as well as the Celtics.   Maybe Brad wants two weeks and other coaches are still coaching games.

Patience grasshopper.

The "hurry" as you put it relates to commitment and desire.  If someone offered you your dream job with great money, would you say:

1) Well, let me think about it.  I'll let you know in two weeks.

Or

2) Damn right, when can I start.

I get it, there are logistics and family issues in play here, but if this is what he wants to do, and his family is behind him, then decide already.  The hesitation has me concerned that he would be here under some type of "duress" -- he came but family is unhappy, doing it for the money, etc.  Are we going to get maximum effort from him?  IDK.

I really am surprised how low the Cronin approval rating is.  While he's not near the top of my list, he's set to have 12 consecutive upper half conference finishes with seven of the twelve being titles or runner ups and 13 tourney appearances in 14 seasons (excluded the COVID year when his team would have made it but the tournament wasn't held).

Again, might not be in my top five choices but a nice down the list option.

I'm trying to make sense of this, but Ned Pfau's plane N53HA is on the move again this morning.

Celtics next game is in Philadelphia, but that's not until the 20th and after the All-Star break.

Maybe they are checking on Joel Embid's chances of entering the portal.
