I agree with Dale C.  And my favorite rule of thumb which is taught in some supervisor training:  Listen with the intent to understand.  Not with the intent to just respond.

Generally agree but there are nuances. The odds I will sprout wings and fly is literally 0%. The odds of Brad Stevens deciding he’d rather be the GM of IUBB rather than President of the Boston Celtics, IMO, is so low for all intents and purposes you could call it 0, though I admit it’s not 0% technically. I do think there is a very small, but non-zero chance Stevens could coach IU. The notion of betting on it really wouldn’t prove Truth Hurts correct though… just because that may not be the outcome, does not mean the chance was always 0. We really have no idea what’s going on - nobody does for real right now. We’re all just blowing different flavors of hot air.

I’m not going to entertain that guy because he’s clearly a troll.  Is there a chance that Stevens doesn’t come to IU?  Absolutely.  Though, that doesn’t mean there’s no chance he won’t come to IU.

I don't follow them at all, but I am shocked there is not any.  Heck, they had odds on what Taylor Swift was going to eat at the SB.

I just think someone saying "it is 0%" and trying to pass that off as some insider sourced hot take is as silly as IT giving the exact time and date of the commitment (something, something siths and absolutes). Two sides of the same coin IMO. You do not have to be an officially licensed fortune teller to know the chances of actually landing Stevens are probably close to zero. Was it zero from the jump? No one will ever be able to answer that with 100% certainty unless he comes out and says himself that he considered it or didn't. Which is probably never going to happen if he isn't our coach. The guy wanted to trigger the board, and did so successfully...or he is a plant because kids need BTB Christmas presents.

Well said. The phrases I use in a similar vein are “assume the person you’re talking to has something worth listening to” or “always assume good intent”.

That said, while the poster may be trying to say “it’s as close to a sure thing as there can be” this, by definition, isn’t “0%”. Semantic debates are lame though so are only fun when someone is being ridiculous.

10 Hall of Fame coaches

i get wanting IU to hire a coach that will produce results compared to Hall Of Famers however there is a lot of luck involved and very hard to find.  Maybe McCollum or Schertz can turn into that in the future but as of now they have 0 high major head coaching experience or even any years as a high level assistant.  Most of those 10 you listed probably spent many years under working their way up as an assistant for high major programs.    My opinion is Otzelberger would give IU a better chance at finding the next coach that could turn into the type of coach you are wanting at IU.  I think his mind set and work ethic is something needed as the next coach.   Will he turn out to be a Hall of Famer? I have no clue I just know from watching his teams the last couple years he is one heck of a college basketball coach and something I haven’t seen at IU in over 8 years.   Either way I am not worried one bit on who SD brings in as a coach because if confident it’s going to be a really good college basketball coach with a great chance to get this thing turned around.   Just my opinion

Agree but the people coming here and making fun of those who think it’s possible are the annoying people scoffing at stunts in an action movie. If someone thinks there is no way Stevens is coming, fine. They are probably correct that he won’t.  But that’s not what some do. They come here as if they are gods gift to message boards and must correct the silly poors. It’s silly, annoying and they deserve the derision.

I agree 100%. We add like 50 pages to this thread a day lately and Stevens talk is a small portion of that. Not hard to ignore the stuff you’re not interested in. And if people speculating about something you find far fetched is that bothersome, probably an inside thought to tell your therapist about instead of lashing out on the board lmao.

You have those belittling you and spouting off "NO" emphatically followed by the 0%'ers. 

Then you have the ones who may, might and probably know something, one way or the other but never leave it as 100% fact.

We add 50 pages a day and 48 of those pages are nonsense because we're really just waiting. 

Stevens talk is really hampering our discussion of whether Rick Pitino is a vampire though.
