I don't think it's totally implausible that Woody would have heard Brad was out of the running. If Brad's statement to Goodman on the 14th was definitive, then word may have reached Woody. 

That would also be consistent with an interpretation of things going silent since then, insofar as after Brad, Dolson may have needed to wait until mid-March to seriously pursue any current coach.

Not saying that's necessarily what happened, just that you can come up with a plausible story (although I know some of the insiders will say that's not right...and perhaps rightly so).

Buddy, there’s no way a coach that’s as disgruntled as Woodson is going to know  who the next coach is or be remotely involved in any coaching process or decision. If he is being told anything it’s all a fluff job. If I remember correctly, Woodson has a huge ego that needs to be fed.

I met Pearl as a kid a couple of times at USI.  Amazing coach very cool dude.  If Drew is too religious I can’t imagine IU hiring someone as vocal about his right wing politics as Pearl.  Just my opinion.

Considering Woodson isn't even doing radio interviews anymore and seemingly burning every bridge on his way out.  Also complaining to national media about him not being the coach next year, even though it was presented as his choice.  I don't believe he knows a damn thing about what Scott Dolson is doing.  He might think he does. 

Not saying Stevens or Drew will be our coach, I just don't think you can take anything he says seriously.

McDermott to me is in the Cronin tier, different pros and cons and might be a temperamentally better fit but you trade some of that with age and it’s about a wash. Good coaches, would probably not bank on an IU title under either but Final 4(s)? Maybe.

I also think that if that’s Woody’s take it makes some intuitive sense for someone aware of/interested in the search but not necessarily plugged in. The guy who said he likes his job and the guy who got an extension are out, this guy who knew Bob Knight really wants it?

Lots of folks turning into the game tonight are in the same info environment he might be and feel similarly. Doesn’t mean they’re right.

If Scott is just passing along info he’s been told, I don’t think he’s trolling. If he is, seems like a weird way to do it. But I also don’t put much stock in anything that would come from Woodson. Maybe he’s right. But given his bias and ego, not trustworthy.

Having said that McDermott would be great. Comparing him to Alford is silly. And I don’t really care what he did at Iowa State. His teams would be fun to watch and would win a lot of games.

But having said thaaaat, he’d be in the second tier for me so let’s get this done.
