Dolson’s a smart guy and with basically a year to prep I find it impossible to believe that the plan is a guy who ain’t comin’, a guy who ain’t comin’ and a guy who probably ain’t comin’. Sure, take the big swings if you need to, but then get into your actual process and nail down your guy. And it’s gonna take a minute. The downside of Woody not making it to the end of the year is the giant information vacuum that we’re going to spend the next 6-8 weeks filling with our angst and insanity. But they’ll get a good dude. They will. Not concerned about the size of the name.

IU is the highest profile job available.  It would seem the AD would have had plenty of time preparing for the coaches exit since he was close to leaving last year.    If you think he put his eggs in one or 2 baskets knowing the job would become available I think that the wrong read of the situation.   With it being the best available sitting coaches are going to want  a shot at the job.  That can’t happen until after their season.   My read is the AD has well thought out plan on who he wants to coach next year and he has had plenty of time to prepare that plan.   In my opinion he will be going after a high major coach with Midwest ties.   If they say no then he will go with a mid major coach with Midwest ties.   If the coach is not playing in the tourney then it will be announced after the conference tourneys and if he is coaching in the ncaa tourney it will be announced a couple days after the loss.  Just my opinion

It’s nonsense.  I guess it comes from our fans getting upset when our team severely underperforms for a number of years despite that being a reasonable reaction.  I think our fans are patient all things considered, it’s amazing so many people still care.

Coaching at IU rules.  Big resources.  Get elite players.  Nice facilities.  Nice town.  Huge support and an amazing venue in Assembly Hall.  IU fans will travel to neutral sites and provide a crowd advantage — hell we outdrew UConn at MSG last season and managed a 50/50 crowd in Auburn’s backyard in Atlanta… and we had a bad team!

If we can ever get a good coach it’s gonna be fun again.

Archie never made an NCAA tournament. Every coach at ever power program will get fired for never making the tournament, Northwestern and Penn State ran through quite a few coaches that way. That's the hire and results that really sunk the reputation. No one expected Archie to fail like that. Absolutely no one.

I agree with this, but Crean’s podcast with the Hysterics (I know) was good context. He talked a lot about the fun but also the “fire crean” chants at his son’s high school games and being approached at church or while sitting in his car at a stop light.

With the right coach, it will be great. But a fanbase this big also has a few bad actors. “Fishbowl” is used so much it’s meaningless, but I do think this is an intense environment.

That’s fair.  I wonder if the chants were the opposing high school’s fans or not.  But regardless, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows and you make a good point.

One offset I didn’t mention is the coach gets paid many millions here too… that can take the sting off a little…

@Chris007 Here's my question:

If the situation actually was (and I take all these rumors very, very lightly) we offered Brad, he countered, then everything went silent.

I have a very hard time believing we wouldn't agree to whatever he wanted unless it was something like renaming Assembly Hall after him.

This all seems positive. What am I missing?

FAU isn’t Michigan, and he came back to FAU for another year after signing that extension. Did Dusty sign an extension with Michigan because (a) he’s happy at the Big 10 school he currently has tied for first or (b) because he wants to keep the chatter down until he leaves for IU in a month.
Like, let’s be serious here…

I said devils advocate.. lol.

I don’t think it would happen. Just responding to saying he likely signed because he wants to stay for a long long time. Leaving 1 year into a 10 year deal isn’t a long time.

Crean mentioned this factor as well, lol.

He sounded so relaxed and comfortable in the podcast and I kept thinking, man, where was this guy when he was coaching. But maybe he’s grown, and maybe that’s the pressure of the gig, too.

....I believe it was Isaac.

One thing I will say about Isaac is he heard things that no one had heard. That's why I was agreeing with him on some things. Until he named a date, time, and channel. But before that, he had info in real time that I was hearing from the non-IU side. I don't believe he is located in Bloomington if he has any ties to the real Isaac Torres

I will go a step further and say that a couple of people who had to go back and find more money said they wanted a guarantee this time that if they found a few more million to throw on the deal it wasn't going to be a no. From everything I heard they got that. That was the morning of the 14th. Then everything took off till Goodman in the afternoon.

My sources haven't said much since. I have heard other people saying different things but it goes in cycles. Every time you hear something good within a few hours you hear something bad and vice versa.

So who really knows?

Thanks.  If this is how it played out, I would be surprised if Brad wasn’t reasonable in his counter/ask.  And he knows better than most people as a GM that if someone meets your ask it’s a deal.  We shall see!
