General Coach Candidate News

Not the flashiest of names but if he gets chosen , I’ll give him a fair shake.

It will piss many off when he’s announced but it won’t be long into his first season before everyone realizes that he’s the real deal.

He’s the exact kind of coach that this fanbase would fall in love with.

I’ve made my opinion pretty clear. I think Indiana should hire Chris Beard. The upside risk is far higher than the downside risk.

“What if he gets fired a year from now and we have to hire again?”….then we conduct another coaching search. You’d think we would be good at it by now.

Since we won’t consider the most obvious choice, then the next choice is to take the very best guy available after… that’s McCollum imho.

I think more than 15 names before Turgeon. Who are the 7-8 you see before Cronin? I don’t think many of the more popular names are very likely to happen. Personally I’m bracing for much worse than Cronin lol

I was being generous with the turgeon thing to not sound like a jerk....I don't see any scenario with turgeon and if there is it will be the most ashamed of IU i have ever been

With that said:

Besides stevens, who i don't know whether it is in or out, the call has to go out to otzelberger, McDermott, few, golden, Bennett just for the hell of it, Donovan for the hell of it, buzz, Shaka, mccasland, and possibly then Beard with zero tolerance provisions, although I don't think iu goes there with beard.

Cronin would be in the next group, although personally I would much rather have gates at Missouri then Cronin.

Cronins attitude i think would wear thin if there was even a little bit of struggle although I do think he would be solid, but I would also prefer Collins to Cronin as well

Edit: i didn't mention mccollum, byington, devries because I don't know how viable they are or if they would even want the job. Out of the three maybe byington since cignetti is already here but maybe mccollum holds out for Iowa and maybe devries doesn't like the midwest.

On another note if IU hires TJ, maybe mccollum takes Iowa st

Only one year if D1 experience, it's not a risk that IU can afford to take.
If we are looking for a slow non shooting offense then that is the route we should go.

Clearly not a ball knower.

Seriously?  I have watched more basketball than most people on this board besides OldFart and a few others. This guy has coached in D1 less than 1 year.  There is a major difference between D1 and D2.  The program is at the point where we can’t base it off of a possible what if, they need a guarantee winner from D1.  I am not saying 4 or 5 years from now that he wouldn’t work out but IU just can’t and shouldn’t take that chance.

The NIL value that iu offers is really the ace in the hole of all of this. It has to be up there with the nation's best. I would have to think there are some big names to at least consider that, along with the extra money a coach would make here every year.

Once again it really just matters what IU is willing to pay

There was always a real possibility may and stevens both weren't coming. You strike when the iron is hot. That was last year on May. Quinn is the gift that keeps on giving

Quinn is a cancer!  I grew up watching him and he is/now was an IU legend but he’s ruined his own legacy!

Defensive he*l and motion/movement on offense.  His defense is what he hangs his hat on

Ole Miss basketball coach Chris Beard quoted Bob Knight, his mentor, during a game against Kentucky. Beard said, "That's Bob Knight. Victory favors the most aggressive team, and the team that makes the fewest mistakes
