Also I think given the trauma of Archie and Woodson people are forgetting how exhausting Crean was as a human being. This is something that the Wikipedia coaching records can never capture. What does it feel like for this person to be a character in our lives? Crean had some real positives. (Remember him taking McDonald’s to a person outside the restaurant?) But he was stubborn and defensive and awkward and honestly kinda manic.

And he was inconsistent, and his trajectory was going down. Recruiting was tailing off locally and nationally. Juwan and OG were diamonds in the rough but we were all tired of an irritating coach who wouldn’t adjust his turnovers or defense and who also needed to find diamonds in the rough.

Most days, I remember the good parts of the Crean era. But it was time to move on from him, and it’s worth reflecting on the legit bad parts too.

I agree.  He not only left dysfunctional lockeroom players for Archie Miller to clean up.  And from my perspective, IU administration would not agree to let Archie get rid of a few and bring in his guy.

Zeller saved Crean's butt.  But it was time for Crean to go poof.  Similar to what happened at Marquette.

Long term lurker here (look at my join date), What I'm wondering is Chris 007 is wrong more than he is right, then when he is called out he throughs a fit and threatens to quit posting and people kiss his a## till he comes back, then he posts stuff that is more wrong than right, but he is an "insider" that doesn't  know SH_T

Scotty, is that you?

Note that I said "during the season", not if he stays at UM. He knows the IU job is open but if he's in such a hurry to sign the extension during the season, then I just don't think he was ever really interested in coaching at IU at all.

If it's after the season, he listens to IU's pitch and then says no, then I could see how year 4 Woodson might have cost us May. But not a during the season extension. There was the report that May turned down UL because it was a fishbowl, so maybe he never would have ended up at IU.

Woodson still should not have gotten year 4, regardless. It's sad that we're arguing these hypotheticals because of that.

The "fishbowl" discussion is interesting. No way to know before we know... but the IU job > than the UL job (in my mind, and many around here)... and the fact that Dusty was an alum is also a factor that could tip the "fishbowl" discussion in our favor... we shall see...

Stevens to me is a pipe dream as much as I would love to have him. I was a little skeptical how Dusty would adjust to high D1 basketball, but he has done a great job and would be a home run hire. I hope we can still land him.

I'm at the point that if we miss out on these two, that we can still land a coach that can be successful here. We have the resources. What we have endured the past 8 years with Archie and Woodson, I can't fathom we can do much worse than that. It is fun to talk about Banner 6, but the reality is that we are further away from a title as we have ever been. I wasn't a Crean guy, but I do miss watching teams that were fun to watch and were nationally relevant.

I really don't care who we hire. I just want a coach that who has some fire to him, understands game management, values tough teams, can keep us consistently in the top 25, and someone who we believe has the opportunity to take us on a ran come March. Im tired of watching bad, disinterested teams. I'm ready to enjoy IU basketball again.

Also, we were temporarily banned from the state of Hawaii due to his FT shooting display and abuse of the hawaiin shirt.
