I don't get why people would criticize Dolson for going after BS, which if he would be successful in securing , there would be calls to canonize him, in the time before he can not really accomplish anything with active coaches.

And the notion that it somehow is a black mark on IU is laughable.  If the hire, May, Few, Cronin, etc in a month and a half, no one will give a sh*t about what Dolson did in Mid February.

I personally agree and have made a few posts to the same effect as your first sentence.

I don't consider this a black mark on IU at all. Just a funny narrative about always chasing but never landing the same guy.

We're coming off the worst coach we've had in the last 25 years, low bar. I'd personally prefer the bar be set higher than "not Mike Woodson".

Hard to do when people in here are  turning their nose up at a candidate like McDermott who has been ranked by some publications as a top 15 coach in the game right now.  Coaching in the Big East a conference that has produced 4 national champions while he has been coaching in the Big East and competing at the top of the conference where he is working on his 6 straight year with a winning conference record of at least 5 games over .500.  IU fans are working on watching their program the last 9 years where they have seen only 1 year where their team finished above .500 and that was 12-8 3 games back from first.   You are right IU should set the bar higher then not Mike Woodson however maybe some fans should see that maybe that a coach like McDermott wouldn’t be as bad as they think.

Pardon my ignorance, but how did a "sources told"...

a vague not a candidate post become this direct Brad Stevens quote?

I haven't seen that quote on @Thefieldof68.

Not saying it isn't true just wondering where that quote was sourced.

I am not and was not bought in on the Stevens stuff, it seems like whomever we end up getting always comes out of left field like right before it is announced, however....I think Jeff Goodman knows nothing about the search and will know nothing about the search until the rest of us do.

Because it's too early. The timing with all of this is just weird. We can't realistically expect a coach to say yes this early when we still have a month left in our season. Even if someone agreed to it, good luck keeping that a secret for a whole month.

Totally agree. The positivity was coming from multiple "insiders" which is probably why everyone was excited expecting an announcement soon - totally unrealistic. I've always thought the new hire will be announced at the beginning of the tourney, not in mid-February.

Why are people mad? Are we not here for the fun of this all?And to get mad at anyone like @Chris007 or @JerryYeagley23 or anyone else... Really? Is it that serious? Maybe they were right and things haven't happened that way yet. All they do is relay things they hear. Be happy because no other free board is getting any info like here. Jerry says he has his guy? Maybe it's May and not Stevens, is anyone really gonna be upset about that? People need to get a grip and remember why we are here.

I'll continue having my 25% faith that's Stevens. Because I know it'll be May or Beard or whoever.

I also know we could hire a broken office chair and it'll work more than what we've had the last 8 years.

Cheer up y'all, we got a fun ride ahead of us.

Not mad at all. Just wondering where they are.

Ok I lied. People are holding on to the single quote Goodman shared as if that's all that was discussed. I'm guessing, much like normal conversations, there was more discussed which is where the "not a candidate" probably came up.

I highy doubt Brad Stevens hopped on a phone call with Jeff Goodman to discuss.

I would bet Goodman reached out via email to Stevens/his reps and received a jargon-filled response and Goodman, barely knowing how to read - let alone be a "journalist" - grabbed the one line that you can take at surface value as a clear "No."

It's almost certain he's not coming, but I highly doubt there was a "normal conversation" between these two.

If Rabby is saying people at IU don't necessarily think this is definitive... lol, ok. Scott better be working on plans B-Z.

I never would've expected any announcement prior to the season ending anyway.

Strap in folks, we have a long way to go before getting anything straight from the horse's mouth.

McDermott would be very good here IMO

People need to look at McDermott.  I changed my mind after you had mentioned some things and I kept an open mind and looked up his history myself.

Why wouldn't they have talked? They've talked numerous times before according to Goodman

Everyday is the same cycle....good news in the morning and those looking ti discredit in the afternoon/evening. Probably lands somewhere in the middle and I'm not buying that it's over with Stevens and his super weak quote. Honestly, to not get a more definitive statement tells me that some of the stuff said on this site could definitely be true...

No but if he makes another atrocious hire then he deserves blame for thirsting after Brad to the detriment of other candidates. If you swing for the fences you better not strike out.

People shouldn’t be mad at all. They should just realize most of the “insiders” have not been right when it comes to coaching hires.

Trying for Brad isn’t to the detriment of other candidates.  The other candidates are all in the middle of their seasons anyway.  Just move to the next candidate now it’s nbd.  UK went through a few before getting a Yes.

I will say that if Brad is out / was never interested, then better that Dolson and Co. know now, before Dusty or other candidates sign extensions. Good to get this out of the way 4-5 weeks before the tournament starts.

How does signing a piece of paper impede his ability to enjoy the break?

If fact should be able to enjoy it more with that elephant off the back.

Yeah I'm sure Goodman is hopping on phone calls with NBA execs all the time.....

I doubt they are on a phone call basis with each other.

Maybe he did schedule time to do an interview specifically to refute any interest in the IU job, with Jeff Goodman of all people... (not).

Therefore I think it was a written exchange.

Stevens called into a radio show last time, where you could hear it directly from his mouth.
