It’s probably just a coincidence that May is coming to town tomorrow…..I wonder if he wishes he had waited one more year at FAU?

Kind of an interview in front of a huge crowd. Should Michigan play poorly he may drop down the list. But if they play very well he could climb to the top of most fans lists.

Beard is an incredible coach and I believe he wants the job.

I think the dropped charges are not a deal breaker.

I think that potential major unaddressed alcohol issues, if true and coupled with the dropped charges, are a deal breaker. I do not know how troubling the alcohol issues have been and currently are.

Beard's "candidacy" is such an enigma.

In an alternate world, he'd be my No. 1 choice -- even over Stevens (I know -- I'm crazy. Just my opinion, however.). Unfortunately, the baggage and the unknowns exist.

When it comes to basketball: IU vs. Mississippi is a no-brainer. I would think 10 out of 10 hard-core coaches would pick IU six days a week and twice on Sundays. I suspect Beard's reported sudden strong interest in us is born out of wanting to get into a better basketball circumstance more so than paying homage to RMK.

But consider this: With no issues, he's still at Texas, his alma mater. And that seemingly was where he wanted to be -- more than anywhere else. If he were still at UT, would he have any interest in our opening this time? My guess: probably not.

Actually that's Linton but I get your point

yep, Linton Miners. My colleg roommate was also from Linton and one of Dusty’s AAU coaches when he was in younger.

I think the dropped charges are not a de facto deal breaker.

Right. There are two factors at play:

(1) Whether the initial incident disqualifies Beard (which has been debated at length in this thread), and

(2) Whether the existence of the initial incident plus potential alcohol issues make him a bigger risk moving forward.

That second factor is a huge part of this - not whether he’s guaranteed to have more issues but whether he’s more likely than other candidates.

Chris F’n Beard!  The 2nd coming!  Put it in the books.

Fanta emphatically stated "if offered, he would take it".

Norlander also suggested this, I believe.

Seems pretty well known throughout media circles Beard would absolutely take the job.

Regarding Dusty and Greene County: I was born and raised in central Indiana but like most Indiana folk, I was attending H.S. basketball games and running around the top of the gyms before I knew how to dribble a basketball.  Indiana fans know basketball and have a connection to the sport unlike many others.  While I know very little about Greene County, Indiana, like so many others I know the small schools in that county have a reputation for fantastic H.S. basketball coaches/teams.  For those of us who grew up during the one class system in the state, we remember those small schools from Greene county kicking @$$ in the tournament against schools much larger with much greater notoriety year after year.  Dusty was raised in that area and around that basketball atmosphere so I'm not surprised at all that he was successful at FAU.  I think he has the "IT" that IU needs to recruit in state players along with those portal players who he recognizes with the same "Indiana" fight and grit.  I'd take Dusty over any coach IU has hired since Coach Bob Knight any day.

I’m not straight up opposed because I believe that given how buttoned up this school tends to be on things if they made a move with him it would be with due diligence down to the bone. But this is why he’s not probably top 5 for me despite being an elite coach: 1) He beat a woman. He did that. I don’t care if she refused to testify and they dropped the charges. The police report’s clear. He did it, 2) The alcohol thing is a concern. When a guy literally drinks himself blind at a Christmas fundraising event for freaking boosters, it’s not nothing. 3) The guy deflected UT questions by calling himself “the most honest guy you’ve ever met. If I say I’m not going, I’m not going.” Then he went. 4) Not saying that stuff is prohibitive on its face, but it’s not nothin’ and that stuff happened with much less scrutiny and heat than this job. Human frailty is more likely to arise under heightened scrutiny. 5) Hovadipo made the point elsewhere, and it’s a good one: If you’re Dolson and making as big a hire as you’ll ever make, are you really tieing yourself and your career to a grenade? I might be willing to overlook or talk myself most of that stuff if I thought he was just miles better than anyone else available, but I’m not sure that’s true.

This is it in a nutshell for me and the reason I don't think Beard gets a call.

I don’t watch much Mizzou basketball, but live just SW of St. Louis. Always nice seeing fellow Missourians on here.

Went to high school in Alton across the river. Military school closed now but still have friends in St.Louis area

+1.   Dennis Gates would be a bad hire.  Hopefully we are aiming higher than that.

Is Scott's friendship and talks with Brad more likely to be about consulting Brad about IU's next hire more than they are about Brad actually taking the job?

I would guess it’s both.  If Brad doesn’t want the job, he is still a great source for thoughts on who would do well at IU.  He is the GM of the current NBA Champions… he knows personnel decisions.
