As for what you’ve heard, it’s accurate. When it got hot after the Iowa and Illinois games, he wanted SD to publicly support him by saying he was coming back next year. Dolson told him that any evaluation of his performance was a post-season issue, and Woodson didn’t like that. He sought help from others and was told that we weren’t going to do what he wanted. I think he saw the writing on the wall and realized he wouldn’t survive. I’m not privy to every last detail and discussion, but that’s how it unfolded. The discomfort in certain circles at IU (and from some very prominent alumni and friends) is palpable. He was and is extremely well thought of by a number of people, and no one wanted things to end this way. He’s been connected to IU for nearly 50 years, and that’s helped him build a number enduring relationships. Unfortunately, there were a few people who were concerned that his hiring would someday result in a less than happy departure, so they’ve proved to be prophetic. This is the most reasonable thing you've said all day. Withnail 1

Most had high hopes for him, especially given all of the previous disappointments, and they’re genuinely sad that it didn’t work out for him and for the University. Not sure why people find that so odd or unbelievable. Honest question. How many times do people like you have to be wrong before you finally wake up? The people on these boards have been a million times more correct than the people running things at IU have been for every single hiring and firing since the Knight era. Every single one. If you'd just hire who we tell you to you'd never be in this situation. Is it fun for people like Dolson and Whitten to be laughed at by the rest of the country? I assure you they are laughed at. No one can believe how incompetent the people running IU are. No one. You see it from the media from people like Goodman and Rothstein. They think you're a joke. And here we go again most likely. You have Chris Beard and Will Wade out there begging for the job. But you'll screw it up again as always. I think it's by design. Hoosierfan2017, Silat Player and Sandman 3

LamarCheeks Posted March 14 Posted March 14 If memory serves, even KathyC said in one of her recents posts that good things are coming for IU hoops. I don't necessarily consider that a strain on the board. I haven't the slighest clue who our next coach will be, but Chris, AP, Jerry and others seem to be optimistic, so I'm guess I'm gonna choose to be as well ... HinnyHoosier and sixseis 2

Only way you can really outdo yourself on that front is hire Isiah/Wittman/Turgeon. Even Turgeon wouldn't be as bad as the Woodson hire. Home Jersey and SlammySammy 2

Not sure why people find that so odd or unbelievable. Clearly, if the Indiana administration has proven anything, it's that "high hopes" are grounds for epic failures... and again, having watched IU basketball for almost 60 years, there have been plenty of ups and downs, but Woodson's laissez-faire approach to coaching a college basketball team, what other outcome could there be? The fact that the majority (according to you, re: "there were a few people who were concerned") thought it would succeed tells me all I need to know about their ability to judge the potential abilities of leaders (coaches). Without a change in the decision makers who do the hiring, we are doomed. KNOBYDOX, Silat Player, JPCIVOP and 1 other 4
