  2. Hey everybody, could we keep this thread to talking about portal players? I think we have several other threads that discussions about current and past coaches can be had. Most appreciated.

  3. Really nice move on Trent's part to be there in support of future teammate Vaughn Karvala and do a little side recruiting on Jalan Haralson while he's there.

  4. You posted “when” not “if” he craps out; hence me reading that way. If that’s not what you conclude? My bad. Anyway, here’s one Indianapolis HS head coach’s take; not some wanna be sportscaster or click-baiter. Tony Adranga is pretty good at breaking down film; this is his year in review, warts and all. He cites the terrible roster build as we all do, but he also talks scheme, starting at the 4min, 45 sec mark: So there ya go! And it’s not the only time I’ve seen this; it’s the first thing I found for you. Now, find a similar or higher level coach that has criticized Devries’ schemes and adjustments.

  5. Sorry, a guy with IU interest either has to be too expensive or not good enough to play at IU. There's no in-between. At least that's what I have learned from the "Transfer Portal w/ IU interest" thread.

  6. I’d put him in the good to very good category. Excellent on ball, high IQ, and plays physical for his size, although his size is what I feel keeps him from being elite. But that’s picking nits. He’ll bring it on both ends

  7. Feels like Burton is going to be our lead scoring dawg. All year long I was itching for a small guard that can break people down off of the dribble and create shots.

  11. No coincidence that when we’ve had good teams we had a good point guard. I’d be happy with Burton if he’s healthy

Ok then, this is my boy. Was originally a ‘26 who classed up. Built like an offensive tackle. One of the hardest playing true 5’s you will ever see. Great feet. Has fantastic timing as a shot blocker. His post offense is still crude but his hands and his feet are so good that it’ll come. Sets giant screens. Forget 3mil centers, I want this kid right here.

  18. In their last single season, prior to going to IU, Rourke and Fernando threw for a combined 27 TD’s with 11 INT’s. In their one year each at IU they threw for a combined 70 TD’s with 11 INT’s!!!! Will Hoover also improve? In Cig I trust!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. You know we're due for this insanity to end!!! Why can't we bring in Sherrell, Fru, Miika, Suigo, Haralson, Vaakes, Burton? That would do it. Other than Vaakes we've heard something about the rest of them at some time. Aren't we frickin due? One big haul to turn this around and buy some time to develope some kids. Everyone I mentioned has multiple years. If you're reading this please bow your heads. "Dear Jesus, I have had the flu, a toothache and a mild case of hemorrhoids during the month of March, while turning 55. Im in the cvs parking lot now getting some more pills and ointments. I need this. The football thing is great, but we need basketball back. In the name of Jesus and the blessed Mother, Amen."

  20. Hmmm… UL PF Mouhamed Camara is portalling. Came through the NBA Africa program and redshirted last year. Seem to recall reading that he was this insane athlete and specimen who was just not ready to play yet. Must have shown enough in exhibitions that their fans seem sorry about this. Now he’s been in UL’s program for a year. So, a high upside lottery ticket 4 man with 4 years of eligibility who is probably reasonably priced and the staff would know very well. Just sayin’

  21. He had to go because he wasn't doing his job. It is water under the bridge at this point but Mike thought his job ran from November to mid April and he wasn't really keen on doing the thing over the summer you HAVE to do to be successful at this level. He tried to treat it like an NBA job where someone else acquires his talent and he coaches it. That isn't how college works, even in the NIL era. 50% of his job was related to relationship building and he was terrible at it. From messing up kids names to being the disinterested party when he was supposed to be shmoozing the kids. And I get it, at his age kissing 16-22 year old @$$ has to be pretty irritating, but that is what he signed up for. He was a Hoosier hero, people wanted him to do well.

  23. I’m personally on the DeVries train, I think he can grow the program back, but his seat will be scorching hot if we miss the tourney next season, we need to make the tourney. I’ve been flogging the dead horse that coming in he lacked sufficient time, staff and any returning players. This offseason he has most of that. Still doesn’t have a lot in returning players but regardless whether that’s on him, he has at least Sisley and the incoming frosh group, probably Dorn, and the experience of what it takes in the B1G. Time to get us dancing. maybe instead of starting with “lose big” - the old first year coach saying - we now look at his first 3 years as - lose close (year 1) - win close (year 2) - win big (year 3)

  24. Top 30 committed recruit. Can’t find it now but one of the national guys that post good offensive sets(hoops vision or Jordan S) posted a clip that said don’t worry Hoosiers fans while not going great here on some offensive sets that DeVries offense creates. Showed good action of getting wide open shots and spacing and cutting that got wide open layups. Like with anything though you can pick apart the bad and ignore the good or point out the good and ignore the bad. Don’t the guy forgot how to coach just didn’t preform to the level most wanted. Still most on here thought the roster was crap and poorly put together with mid major players and played the second toughest B1G conference schedule and he was still first 4 out in a year where 6 teams in the B1G made the sweet 16 and 2 are in the Final 4

  27. Honestly, I like the simplicity of a 64 team tournament, probably because it’s fun filling out a simple bracket and offers a nice mix of teams. More teams means a more complex bracket that might impact casual interest. Additionally, I’ve rarely seen a bubble team that I thought was compelling enough to expand the tournament for. When you add in that many of the new teams will likely be power 5 teams with losing conference records, I just don’t see how this improves the tournament product. It just seems like we are adding a bunch of uninteresting games between marginal teams. To me it’s simply a money grab that may damage the product and end up being a money loser in the long-term.

The Mediocre One did not retire by any stretch of the imagination. He was canned with a golden parachute. "Retiring" implies that it was Woodson's choice to move on. It was not.

  30. I have heard IU is prepared to make a major offer to Aiden Sherrell who played at Alabama his first two years. And as everyone knows, it of course is “PREPARED to make a major offer…” BECAUSE no way would anyone at IU be talking to anyone before the portal opens Via Eric (hysterics)

  34. Yeah if you have gripes with this hypothetical list idk what to tell anyone. Obviously this is a big wishlist but it satisfies everyone’s concerns about the mid majors and the productivity over potential that’s 4/5 high major P4 guys, all with significantly proven production. We won’t start him, but even if you plug Sisley in at the four as your high energy rebound and defend guy, that starting five looks a ton better than this years. To that point, if Devries doesn’t perform with that much production and better roster construction in year 2 the writing will be on the wall.

  35. 100% agree: I also don’t think anyone should be sold. I like the style. First year was kinda ‘okay’. Yeah, I’m hopeful but not sold. I don’t think anyone should be off the train yet either. This upcoming season is massive for a multitude of reasons.

    2026 NCAA Tournament

Yea. I mean what's the TV value of eight additional games with crap to mid teams that can't make the field of 68? It's very little and not moving the needle on the NCAA tourney media rights deal. None of the teams they're adding have any chance to win the title, which at the end of the day is the sporting purpose of a tournament. This isn't the end of the world, but it is unnecessary. I didn't like going from 64 to 68, but I'll admit Dayton play-in works because Dayton is bball crazy and embraces the event. One more site will be added, finding another place like Dayton would help. Maybe Wichita or something I don't know. Anyways, thumbs down from me. Given enough time they'll probably expand even more. Bleh. I'm all for evolving and growing stuff almost all of the time, but it's also nice when people fight to protect things that are already optimized and work extremely well.

  37. Fwiw, I deleted some unnecessarily combative posts. Yes, I’m familiar with Tony from social media and knew what you were referring to as I listened to that podcast too. None of these podcasters that want to maintain good relationships are going to publicly criticize a coach in his first year. And I've seen some of Tony’s breakdowns and think he does a nice job. He goes out of his way here to lay blame entirely on roster construction here as a way of purposely not publicly criticizing another working coach, and in this case one who is at the flagship university of the state he coaches in. I can go back and find his tweets saying nice things about Woodson early on too, but what would that prove? If you think Devries did a good job coaching last year, fine by me. You’ve stated it several times. I don’t think any team that lays down and dies down the stretch with a tourney berth on the line, like IU did, received consistently good coaching. I’m hopeful for Carr and the new roster. I’m also hopeful for a Devries learning curve because I don’t think even with an improved roster he’s going to see a second contract if he doesn’t address some things besides roster construction.

  39. Wow, yeah that kid would not get pushed around in the Big Ten. I went and did a quick little research on him. Nicknamed "Baby Shaq" and plays with a lot of force. In 11 games where he played 20+ mpg, he averaged 9.8 ppg, 8 rpg, and 3.3 bpg.

  42. Did he announce he is entering the portal? Pretty sure the staff was involved with him before he committed to SHU. He played pretty well for Shaheen as a freshman. He'd be a great back up big guy for defense and rim protection. And we can definitely pay him considerably more than SHU without breaking the bank. I'd be excited for this one since this staff was involved previously. One to keep an eye on IMO

  43. Not sure settling is the word I’d use for a starting center on a top 20 team that’s super efficient with good defensive metrics. But to each their own.
    3 points
  44. No. He needs to make a splash by winning lots of basketball games, including high-profile games. Woody made a splash with box office recruits and portal gets, and the fan base didn't give a **** because it didn't enable winning. Get a bunch of no-names and curb stomp Kentucky on national tv this fall and all will be well in a big hurry.
