  1. Some thought a program with 4 winning conference records in 18 years with a new head coach should of landed more elite 26 kids that they probably spent less then a month at most to recruit compared to other programs recruiting the same kids for longer. Is what it is. Some still think IU basketball is what it was in the 80s and 90s. It’s not

  2. Conerway was the player of the year in the Sun Belt. Bailey led the Atlantic Ten in scoring. I would call both of them dominant players in their leagues. There are no guarantees. Scouting matters.

  3. Just for the record. I actually like him. I like a lot o bout what he represents. Just want him to be better. His portal efforts and choices disappointed me last year. Felt like a wasted year from jump. That has added concern. But in general, I like him, and really want him to do well. Waiting for results on and off the court to indicate improvements.

  4. Hopefully we know a lot sooner than in a month. If we don't have a good picture of where things stand in a month we are probably in trouble. Last year the portal was open March 24 - April 22. This year the portal is open April 7 - April 21. If the staff has been appropriately proactive we should probably have our core in place by mid-April latest.

I agree with you. But at the same time we'd be using this as some big red flag against DeVries if it was reversed.

  9. I think putting your Heisman/CFP-winning QB getting selected 1st overall live on the videoboard in front of your diehard fans and a bunch of recruits is about as badass as it gets.

  10. From one perspective, portal shopping may be a little easier this time around. Last year we were replacing an entire roster and aside from telling the early targets you'll play along side Tucker and Sisley, we couldn't offer much else. This year, by now we should have a fairly certain idea of which players are returning and we have 3 incoming freshman so it's a much clearer picture for a target of what this year's roster will look like and who his teammates will be.

  14. Dude, we get it, you haven't liked Devries from the jump. No, this past year wasn't good enough. But let's just wait and see how this portal season turns out. We'll know where the program stands in a month.

  15. What off the court? The fact that he tried to get two really high end assistant coaches last year? The fact he got on a plane early in the morning to make one final pitch to Wilkerson to get him from Kentucky? The fact he's at tons of these AAU tournaments this season? The fact that he stole a big recruiter from Louisville?

We’ll see. As an IU fan that wouldn’t bother me that much at all because imo this job hasn’t been on that level since Sampson blew it up and in reality may never have been. But UK, which is inarguably top 4, is being coached by Mark Pope. If UNC is able to bring in a Guy without any problem I would think BBN may collectively slit its wrists.

  17. Yep we’ll see. We know he beat out UK for Wilkerson. That’s actual head to head recruiting so far. Personally I think he demonstrated good coaching acumen, and he brings an established history of building teams up. He disappointed for sure in the end of season collapse but how much of that was on the lack of depth of talent? Very interested to see how the portal recruiting goes, what players are emphasized, how big a role and impact does Carr play and bring, what other changes in approach will we see? Big off season. Needs to score some real impact players

    Coaching Malpractice

Not sure it has been discussed thoroughly just how bad Todd Golden's defensive decisions were for the possession of Iowa's winning score last weekend. Iowa inbounds down two with 8.9 seconds remaining. Golden has three.. yes THREE defenders in the backcourt. One on them is guarding the in-bounder! Guarding the in-bounder is a 6'4" backup guard, when Florida has Reuben Chinyelu, a 6'10" national defensive player of the year candidate parked on the bench. Florida Guard Xavian Lee is tightly guarding Iowa 6'7" freshman forward Sage, who Florida should very much want to catch the ball. Fland is guarding Stirtz; Iowa clearly wants to get the ball to Stirtz, not Sage. 2. Stirtz, as expected, curls toward Sage to pick up a screen. Fland goes under the screen, thereby not putting himself between Stirtz and the basket. As Fland gets beaten, Lee does not switch; he lets Stirtz fly by: Which allows Stirtz to catch on the dead run just past the backcourt three point line. AND? it's on. A three on two fast break for Iowa: Haugh and Condon on Florida are guarding three players. Haugh steps up to Stirtz; with the ball and the best shooter of the three. Stirtz makes the easiest pass ever to the near corner. For the widest of wide open threes imaginable. Game over. This is insanely horrifically bad scheme and strategy every step of the way. Golden's explanation? UF was trying to foul in the backcourt to force Iowa to tie the game from the line. NO YOU WEREN'T - Todd Golden is lying, because fouling up two when the other team is in the double bonus would be (if possible) even worse strategy. Aye. Caramba.

  26. I presented the other day to 200 admitted IU students and their parents about why they should choose IU. I said “be prepared to cheer on the Hoosiers to another Natty because we’ve got Hoo Hoo Hoo Hoover.” It didn’t land. So I said, “tough crowd for dad jokes.” That worked. I am pumped for Hoover needless to say.

To me a mid-major coach with actual head coaching experience in college would be better. Hiring guys with no head coaching experience rarely works. Remove his Butler connections and zero chance he would be a candidate. As we saw with Woodson here at IU, it is important to ask ‘would this guy be a candidate if not an alum’. The answer is almost certainly ‘no’ and it’s the trap schools fall into.

  31. Jon Rothstein reporting that LSU is hiring Heath Schroyer from McNeese State as a senior administrator. He and LSU President Wade Rousse hired Will Wade at McNeese -- and will look to bring him back to Baton Rouge. Wade is the pear-fect fit for that gig.

  35. Some definitely would. I personally wouldn't in the exact same scenario. EX: if Norton leaves next year, it'd be basically the same thing and I'd feel the exact same way about that. If Norton had left IU after this year, with the year we had, that would be a red flag for me.

He was 34 and she was 21 when they started dating. Is that the equivalent of CTC offering Blackmon as an 8th grader?

At some point we have to trust our younger, cheaper guys (like Sisley) to play and develop. Just like in the pros, productive players on cheaper rookie contracts are really valuable because it frees up money to spend elsewhere. And it's almost always cheaper to retain your own good players than to buy new ones. Good news is Ryan Carr should be all over this.

  40. Talking heads that are doing an Indiana piece because our fan base produces clicks. And yes; they are often a good and knowledgable listen. Perception in the gutter? Sure! That's what decades of generally substandard results can do for a program. There is an antidote though; a trend toward winning and player development.

  41. That'd be great. Get Dusty out of the B1G. Also, maybe we can pry him more easily from an out of conference foe? (I don't know about the last part ha ha. But it would be great to get him out of Michigan.)

  42. I don't think Golden was lying. He was really trying to foul, and I think that's why Fland was so desperate to deny Stirtz. They wanted to make someone else catch the inbound and foul him immediately. Kenpom article on fouling up 2, including a reference to Golden at San Francisco: https://kenpom.com/blog/the-guide-to-fouling-when-leading-or-tied/ edit: the article is actually co-written by Pomeroy, and current Florida assistant Jonathan Safir
