Bailey is one of the biggest questions for many posters coming off this game. The next meaningful competition we play is Marquette. He will match up with Ben Gold, 6'11 235 (Reed is 6'10 229) He played 25 mpg last year and averaged 7.4ppg 4.3rebs .9 assists .8 blocks. Shot 37% from 3 on 4 attempts a game. He will be the starter this year. This player profile from a Marquette site was an interesting read, some excerpts: Marquette added nobody in the portal. They lost their 3 leading scorers I think. So they will be playing freshmen and looking for guys to step up in new roles. Should be a fun early season match up.9 points -

Here is a midweek, rah-rah, positive, quasi-propaganda post: - IU-UCLA was a ho-hum match-up in the world of CFB and still drew 3M viewers and was the T-5th most watched CFB game last weekend - I did an AI query, so it's probably not perfect, but it seems directionally correct to me when I do the rough math: Our total viewership across all FB games was ~11M in 2023 It increased to ~35M in 2024 2025 is still TBD, but we're more likely than not going to blow past 35M this season - The 2024 increase in viewership and exposure ("earned media") has been estimated to be worth $15-20M+ depending who you ask. As noted above, 2025 should be a decent to significant increase over 2024 depending how things go (knock on wood). Anyways, for anyone for who finds this stuff interesting, that's what the TV viewership increases have been and the value of that is in the eyes of media/marketing people. You can see how being good at football has quite the snowball effect.6 points

If Alberto has the arm talent I'd imagine he's our guy, though I've yet to see the necessary arm talent in his brief appearances so far. But the coaches see him every day and are well aware if he can hit the whole route tree. If Alberto can't be the guy then we should have our pick of the litter. But if he can? That's a major cost savings that can be spent in other places. And we're likely to need multiple portal offensive linemen for next year.5 points -

.....just wondering about this,..... Does Coach Cignetti go out each year and pick up a new stud qb, with intentions to be the starter the next year? Somehow, I don't get the feeling he is going to settle on Alberto potentially competing to be next year's starting qb. I think he gives him chance, but best believe there's a qb with plans on going to the portal with IU in his sights. His approach has been paying off so far....2 points

with missing on Thompson, we are now able to add a few dollars to the pot for guys like Diane. Signs are pointing towards Karvala going with IU in the coming days. A class of Moody(guard), Karvala(small forward) and Diane(center) would be very good imo. Checks three positions off, can bring in other positions of need via transfer portal.2 points -

Yeah, this has no chance of getting through Congress. The President appoints the commissioner of a new college sports association? That won't become political at all. These colleges don't have to fire these coaches and pay that amount of buyouts, but they do it when they know the price. It isn't like the actual university is actually paying the buyout anyway which this Congressman should know.2 points -

Knee jerk reaction to the second article listed is the danger of tying it to tuition. Is my thinking to shallow or wouldn't this simply incentivize universities to increase tuition in order to increase what they can pay their coach??? Are they also going to cap tuition or is that already a thing???2 points -

^^^ And while it was just an exhibition game and we shouldn't take it for more than that, our guys did hang with a good Baylor team and did so with minimal sideline coaching in at least the closing minutes of the first half and game. a 15-win take from that seems really unwarranted, imo. To me, this is a team that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts -- and that's the opposite of a Woodson coached team.2 points -

IU Indy is finally doing some advertising besides the usual bus decals. They got window signs, offering businesses free tickets for select games to hand out, and even managed to get three home games on WNDY 23 for the first time since the 2014-15 season. It's something to finally get recognized in the city again.1 point -

Same here...that will be an incredibly tough game in that hostile environment. They will be looking for a win to lift up their program for recruiting and give them a signature win for a season that held so much promise. I also think we win but it may be a bit of a bumpy game and not as wide of a margin as most think it will be. I'd feel better if the qb was just coming in for his first game and not his third.1 point -

Any thoughts as to the reasoning behind the delay? Are they trying to prevent fans from flipping the tickets on the secondary market? Is the venue slow rolling the distribution of tickets so it can sell the rest if its inventory first? The media assumption that it’s a no-brainer that we are going to win at PSU makes me nervous. They have a ton of 4/5 stars, were a top 3 team (must be some talent), 100k fans and who knows how they will regroup after Franklin’s departure? I think we will win but……1 point -

Another narrative that irks me a bit is some people say IU/Cig tries to run up the score. I'd guess they just look at the score in a few games and conclude that. Yes, last year, we did in certain instances (lol!). But, we were under fire from many parts of the CFB landscape and had to make statements to the committee. This year though, as anyone who pays any attention knows, in our two big blowouts we pulled Fernando and other starters at the end of the 3rd. And it's not realistic to ask Alberto and the second stringers to not try for 15+ minutes. Duh. This is not a big deal. But it's just another instance of an odd narrative.1 point -

To defend Scott a bit, he wanted to do something after year three of Woody but his hands were tied by Woody’s pals. Once Scott had the political capital from a year of Cig he sh1tcanned Woody midseason right in Quinn’s face. I was impressed. If IUBB is decent the fan support will be good imo.1 point -

Napleshoosier reacted to BGleas for a topic
I hear what you're saying, but most of those same publications had Dusty May's Michigan, Maryland and Wisconsin rated in that same range ahead of last season, while having IU a top 3 team. I get it though, we spent a lot of money on the roster, so you'd hope there would be more preseason momentum behind us. Also just because those aforementioned teams out-paced projections last year it doesn't mean IU will this season. What has me cautiously optimistic are a few things. 1. We brought in a lot of experienced, proven guys, albeit at the mid-to-low major level. 2. We brought in a lot of skill and shooting, not just raw athleticism. 3. While DeVries wasnt really on my radar, i remember watching Drake in their conference tournament championship game in DeVries last season there, and thinking, 'i wish we had guys like that and I wish we played like that.' 4. He's from the Creighton/McDermott tree, and same thing there. Watching Creighton in the tournament this past season, I just loved the way they played. If our offense is anything like that, we should compete and be fun to watch. 5. I loved his answer at the Winery thing when asked about the 5 being a weakness. I feel like our last two coaches would have agreed with the question and then said they have to recruit better. DeVries didn't agree it was a weakness, said he liked his guys at the 5, but did acknowledge rim protection will be an issue and that the coaching staff will need to develop schemes and coach the 5 to be a strength. I dont know, I just really liked that answer. Really long story short, I get your skepticism especially with how much money IU spent, but I think this team has a chance to be really fun to watch and to outperform the preseason rankings like Michigan, Maryland and Wisconsin last season. We'll see.1 point
