He didn’t say the rotation was shortening. He said he’d shorten it if he had too. He’d do whatever they needed to win. If guys didn’t give effort and play hard, then they wouldn’t play and he’d play the 5 guys that do. Everyone did play hard and with passion, so the message reached them.

Winning on the road is proving to be near impossible in the BIG this year. I think it's more how we play than if we win or lose. If we show up with no energy and get blown out, it's a major issue. If Rutgers just plays better, makes more shots, gets a few more beneficial calls, etc. then I don't know if losing means much overall. I just don't want to watch this team play sloppy offense and uninspired defense.

We are IU and they are Rutgers. We should win this game. However, this isn’t a terrible Rutgers team but I believe we owe them a little payback for the BTT. Hopefully, the IU alum up in the area show up for the game to make it a bit more neutral. This is a winnable game and we need to get all the winnable games we can. I get that. It's been repeated on this board countless times. I saw multiple comments about how "horrible" this Wisconsin team was at the time. I think some of our fans have gotten so sick of them winning and beating/outperforming us every year they just wanted to believe Wisconsin was finally bad, and they're still not.

I get it but I think it's more complex than that. A lot happens in the game. Things we never know about. Smith may have tweaked something in the first and Race comes in and back out some time later. That doesn't mean Archie didn't hold true to his intentions. Phinisee got kicked in the sack and looked like he was about to puke. You may want run with Brunk and TJD but then OSU comes to town and you know Davis can back anyone down and slow Wessen down.. and so you can't let Wessen go HAM because after NW you say "I'm shortening the rotation". He probably is, in the big picture of the season. Get the 8/9 the big minutes and leave 10/11 to 3 or 4 mins to relieve some legs. To me, that is shortening the rotation instead of a more balanced minute distribution across all 11 players. Just some thoughts.

What do you feel your response will be? I want a win, obviously, but this is a team that is going to go up and down through the Big Ten. This isn't a typical Rutgers team -- easily the best they've been since joining the Big Ten. Vegas has Rugers as a three point favorite. Sagarin has Indiana ranked 35th and Rutgers ranked 37th and puts Rutgers as a 2 point favorite at home. Pom would have it about the same, maybe more around Rutgers by 4 -- they have Rutgers ranked 32nd and IU 35th. The numbers seem to say that IU has about a 40% chance to win, so taking emotion out, it's a game I want to win but am not expecting. Sure would go a long way, though, and gives us a little wiggle room. FWIW, I am expecting a game that is going to be ugly at points. I see two very similar teams....neither team shoots well at all from deep -- Rutgers hits 29%, IU hits 31%, Rutgers has hit three more total threes in the same number of games. Rutgers: defense 13th in Pom, offense 96th Indiana: defense 42nd in Pom, offense 39th Geo Baker has been out for Rutgers and is out with a broken thumb. NJ.com interviewed coach Steve Pikiell on Monday and he indicated that it would be 'examined this week' and indicated that once he does get back that he'll need to get back into shape and 'get some whacks' on his playing hand, so I'm sure he's out for the IU game. We know Phinnissee came off a little gimpy and hopefully he's a go tomorrow. It's a strange match up size wise because Rutgers plays pretty big without Baker in the lineup -- they typically have starters of 6'4", 6'6", 6'7", 6'7", and 6'10". With this lineup, they really have shut down opponent guards pretty well, particularly short guards. It's really a tough set to play RP and DeVonte at the same time against....if we are successful doing so, that spells trouble for them because they don't go small well.

Roy W and Nike can offer everything a player might want. It’s fair not to like this. “NOT SURE if we are pursuing as hard as we need to”- read into that what you want. We aren’t leaders here but we seem to have a chance. I get the perception our staff is prioritizing Kaufman over Furst. And that’s fine but they are both primary type targets. So we are not pursuing him hard enough because we sent our assistant coach and not our head coach like the other schools? Do you some of you just wake up, jot down all the things you need to complain about for the day, eat breakfast, and start the complaints. I'm surprised we even sent an assistant. For crying out loud, we are playing AT Rutgers today. It's not like IU never recruits the kid...they probably can only do it when it works with their current season schedule as it should be. The other schools in attendance are not scheduled to play today. If Archie would have been at Furst's game and we lose tonight..."Well he needs to worry about his own team instead of out recruiting HS kids!!!" Some of our fan base is absolutely intolerable.

It's to be expected. They haven't lost at home this season, their practically a top 25 team and their a 3.5 favorite so the numbers are in their favor.

I think as long as IU wins one this week there’s not to much to fear but honestly with Baker out would really like to see us win both. If we play like we did on Saturday we should win tbh

I don’t know his family’s situation, but as someone who chose to go to IU as a walk-on at IU to play soccer instead of taking scholarship offers from other programs because it was my dream school, my advice to him (as I sit here with six figures of student loan debt) is take the free education son. You can be a Hoosiers fan the rest of your life without being an alumni.

This doesn’t make any sense. Why should Penn State and Rutgers have to be bad forever? Should they not try to be competitive? Should IU football stink eternally so Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State can have a guaranteed win? The rich shouldn’t be assured of staying rich just because they have been rich in the past.

I want to see all out effort in both games this week. Let’s make that a trend. 1-1 this week is acceptable now. However if we win the game tonight, then 2-0 needs to be the expectation. I know Nebraska played us tough and beat Purdue. But if we play with the effort needed, then Nebraska should be a W.

I understand wanting to be good, but at some point when teams like Rutgers and Penn State get good it creates a bad state where the Big Ten cannibalizes each other. Its sort of like a communist economy which doesn't work and why we need a capitalist economy with haves and have nots. Not sure what can be done about this though as you cannot tell teams like Rutgers they cannot try to be competitive anymore then you can tell IU Football that now that they had a better year. To answer the question though as long as we play hard this is a (somehow) decent Rutgers teams and a loss is not that shameful. Should really beat Nebraska though.

I’m looking for a good all around effort from this team to continue from the OSU game. In all honesty, with the way the entire B1G season has went and our recent road play, I don’t expect a victory. However, I want to see our Hoosiers play very hard and be very competitive. If we have a lackluster showing then I don’t feel like Archie’s message truly got through. It’s just hard to gauge because of how the season has went for the entire conference. I want a victory, but I do feel we need to split 1-1 these next two games to feel better about this team. .... I will be mad because I am always mad if/when IU loses... But I do expect to lose on the road more often than not the rest of the year so I wouldn't be surprised. Agree with most above, if we can split this week it will be a WIN... if we do go 2-0 that is outstanding.... if we go 0-2 that sucks but again wouldn't be totally unexpected

Indeed. Thanks for reminding me ;) In hindsight, I don’t regret my decision, because going to IU was all I ever wanted as a kid, even before playing collegiate soccer was a factor. I loved every second of it, and getting to be a part of a national powerhouse and play for Coach Yeagley (Jerry) and be a part of the family is something most don’t get the opportunity to do. That being said, 20 years later, would it have been just as rewarding taking the scholly and going to UCLA or Notre Dame, etc. and owning a nice 500hp fishing boat instead of owing SoFi until I turn 70.....? The short answer: my advice to Luke would be take the free education and run young man.

You actually bring up a great point about Knights ties to education. Many coaches it’s superficial where as with Knight it was part of his core. Id put up two statues one at assembly hall another at the library. And then make a path connecting it. And line it with his teams athletic and academic accomplishments on stone tablets. Call it the Robert Knight path of Excellence.

Did anybody see at about the 11 minute mark in the first half when there was a loose ball on the floor Ohio State picked it up and Archie went ballistic and slapped the scorers table and just ripped Franklin for not diving for the ball. Franklin was immediately yanked and didn’t play the rest of the game. That play ended in a shot clock violation for Ohio State but Archie was definitely living by his word...if you’re not gonna hustle, you’re not gonna play and it’s that simple.
