IUrocker Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago I like Devries, and he seems like the type of guy who is gonna be more than willing to change and adapt however necessary to be successful here. This years shortcomings gave him a blueprint of what he needs to get from a roster standpoint moving forward that competes in the Big Ten. Obviously we wanted to make the tournament, and probably should have, but I think you could flip the coin over and say it was impressive for Devries to get this team to win 18 games. It was a roster full of mid majors that were not big enough, athletic enough, talented enough, etc to go up against elite type of players that most teams have in this conference. Is it on Devries that this roster was built the way it was? Absolutely. But I think he did a pretty good job with the limitations this roster had. Winning 18 games with this roster shows me he can win big if given the right roster full of actual studs who belong in the Big Ten. The system works. A lot of times we jump out and take leads on teams, but just get wore out too quick to keep up with better athletes and crap the bed because we just can’t keep up. We need the horses. Let Carr build him a good roster to have at his disposal before we start thinking he can’t get the job done. J34 and NatHillIV 2 Quote
EasyEJay Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago On Feb 9th IU defeated Oregon 92-74 to improve to 17-8 looked like they were heading for a 20+ win season and birth in the NCAA tourney. We went on to lose 6 of the next 7 . Lets keep the roster the and everything else the same and say on the 9th IU was instead 8-17 . and then starting having a NW like end of the season and we were currently winners of 6 of 7 or even 7 of 8 because we would have played on Tuesday in the BTT . And were getting ready to play Purdue today at 15-18 . Win or lose knowing the roster and things DDV and staff members have said about the Big Ten and how they need to adjust/change would you feel better or worse about the future of the program? so basically when it comes to year 1 would your rather have ? finish above .500 middle of the Big ten decent start to the season but fell apart at the end miss the tourney OR Struggle out of gate with some bad losses but rally and play your best basketball at the end of the season but finish under .500 and bottom of the Big Ten. I would choose the latter…at least that is showing improvement and something positive going into next year. 8bucks and tkbbn 2 Quote
str8baller Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago What I’ve learned the last few weeks is this roster is about as talented as .500 2A high school squad. Devries used his Xs and Os acumen to turn this sorry band of wimps, losers, and reprobates into a competitive bottom half of the B1G squad. One more season like this and we’ll have to run over to Canton and push apart the busts of Knight and Woodson to make room for Devries. FWHoosier84, Silat Player, pumpfake and 1 other 1 3 Quote

I think Carr is connected within the IU world already and as a natural extension of that he probably has some relevant recruiting connections, but not a main focus. I think his role is much more about scouting the massive backlog of players in the portal using his skill set from Pacers. Which guys have pro traits? And for assigning financial value to targets to inform the staff's decision making. I think Rod Clark is regarded as our best assistant and he was hired too late for last portal to make a difference. I'm thinking of guys who previously played for him or AAU programs he is connected to. Drew Adams supposedly has connections to Flory? Delivering him would be huge but I can't imagine it happening. Don't know what KJ has for us via the DMV. I'd like to see us go after the kid who just decommitted from Wake Forest kottke 1 Quote
Lebowski Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago Looks like his P4 coaching record is pretty consistent. Best of luck to him next season. Hopefully he learned some things that he can take to improve the program. I enjoy IUBB but admittedly I don't really focus all that much on them. It's not that I don't want to support IUBB because for me, basketball in general is hard to watch these days. I'm a bit old school and my 'get off my lawn' attitude doesn't help matters either. However, I am aware enough to see the differences between good teams compared to average/bad teams. I'm able to see development throughout a season and this team did not develop. They seemed to be a 'good team' but the wheels feel off. I don't know what happened to them, maybe there was something on film our competition noticed and exploited it, maybe the team wore down in conference play, maybe they just hit a slump at a horrible time, or maybe it's all the above. I don't have a clue, as I already mentioned I don't really focus on it. But I do hope Coach DeVries figures how to put good teams on the court at a consistent basis year after year because I know the fanbase (myself included) is starving for that 'good team' consistency. skhoosier2, FWHoosier84, tkbbn and 1 other 4 Quote

IUHoosier5 Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago Dreaming… Can Cignetti work as a consultant for the men’s basketball program? Where each prospect is required to meet with Cig before an offer with NIL is attached. Reason I say this is I got word this morning from a colleague with a legitimate connection to the team that after last night’s game, players admitted to checking out after the first NW loss. I feel like someone like Cig who can quickly figure out if a player’s mental fortitude is enough to withstand the grueling B1G is needed. Another interesting tidbit he shared: one player paid one of the walk-ons $400 to pick up dog crap in his yard. That’s very generous but also bonkers. skhoosier2, ALASKA HOOSIER and hoopsta007 3 Quote

Honestly, neither would matter. We’re likely looking at 14-15 new players on the team next year. This was a one year project. It didn’t work. We didn’t build momentum for next year or develop a couple guys for a sophomore jump. This season of Indiana basketball was just this season of Indiana basketball. And now it’s over. Really never felt a connection to this team in any way. It was mediocre basketball played by players who I barely got to know, and will not remember in six months That part hurts to admit. It hurt seeing balconies empty all year. Hurt that we didn’t have a brand of basketball that was interesting. Probably watched the fewest games in a season in my 35 years as an IU fan. I just hope they can get my attention back somehow next year. Because losing interest in one of the things that has been a part of your identity and a source of hope and sometimes joy, feels weird. I just want them to make me care. We’re at a point where that would be an achievement. Hoosier DaDa, Hollywood Mike Miranda, skhoosier2 and 11 others 12 2 Quote
