The Sherrell recruitment made it interesting, and maybe because of what happened with JP Estrella. We wanted Sherrell and we did what it took to get him.  Probably paying him near Bidunga prices.  So that makes it a partial L.  lol. 

It was reported before they took their visit that Shelstead and Bidunga were likely a combo deal. 
 

Our staff seemed to focus in on Burton rather early. Given that they clearly had other high profile big options I don’t blame them for bailing on the Shel/Flory combo. Usually a combo deal like that is getting one guy paid more than he deserves thanks to the agent. Also Burton has an extra year of eligibility.

UConn has like 6 or 7 spots to fill still. Just saying, the portal only closed yesterday, most teams aren't done yet building their roster for next year and many won't be until mid/late summer.

I think we're still keeping some powder dry for a potential starter. 

We have a roster and a style to promote. We have money for that type of add. There are several bargain bigs left ot there.

Kinda funny how some seem to think there are impact players just waiting to sign with IU to fill the 11th, 12th, and 13th roster spot and take what little NIL is left. It's willfully ignorant of the fact that guys aren't entering the portal to just wear the candy stripes and are actually looking to maximize exposure, PT, and $$$.

I can guarantee the last three gets will be guys with potential but also with warts.  I can also guarantee a certain amount of undeserved outrage about the last guy on the bench that will only see pt against the likes of Delaware St with 1:13 left in the game.

I would hope the staff is looking to fill the 6th-8th spots, not the 11th-13th.

Broadly agree. Except, I don't think it's completely accurate to describe what needs filled as the 11th, 12th and 13th roster spot solely because of the chronological order they're being added in.

Personally I think "spot 11" is Manhertz. We need to add at practice player types for 12 and 13. Spot 10 is probably Karvala IMO. I do not expect to see much of him in conference play. People expect PAM to get rotation minutes in the back of an 8 or or 9 man rotation. So IMO we need a big to fill those back of the rotation minutes not just round out the roster and warm the bench.

100% this.  This was going to be my reply.  Then on top of this, nothing should be given and everything earned. I can guarentee Waglers impact wasn’t known or projected.  Maybe he was slotted 10th or 12th on that roster. He ended up 1.  
Even on our team, our backups at the 1 and 5 ended up being the more consistent players in the season.  
 

Stack talent.  Take chances on 11-13.  (Mid majors, Foreign, etc).  But get the best talent you can get.  Let the summer decide the players.  Play the best not the highest paid.  But packing it in for practice players in 3 scholarship spots is a mistake. I DO think we get at least 1 more guy that might play.

Thats the debate.  Doesn’t feel that way to me, but we won’t know until it happens.  
PS- it’s 8-10 for me.  I don’t personally love our Starting SG spot but that’s a me thing.  I could see where our 2 and 3 spots both end up weaknesses.   Or maybe strengths. I’d like to see a 2-3 that could push to play/start.  And an atlhletic 5 with potential.

The hard work has been done. Significant upgrades have been made and I’m  gonna lose any sleep over who we may or may not add now.

Yes, that would be funny. But what we don't have is an impact wing. We have a group made up of promising but not ready and "hope they're better with us." I was being wishful and pretty specific with hopes for an impact player. He would push one of Mustaf or Harris to 6th man. 

Someone's going to throw a bundle at him. Why not us.

100% agree.

We have filled a number of needs but an impact wing is essential and remains a glaring hole.
