We (like 10-15 other schools) have a ton of NIL money.

Unlike other schools we have spent a very small percentage of it so far. UL, UK, and Michigan's rosters already look really good because they are about done budgeting for them and putting them together.

Any 7ft kid, which Hanner wasn't, doesn't have a low floor. They're rim protection, 5 fouls, and a decent rebounder... at minimum..... specifically this kid. 

Being 7 ft tall doesn’t guarantee anything but having 5 fouls to give, & they may not be good fouls.  Your post states that all 7 footers have a low floor.  That is not even remotely true.  What floor could be lower than not being able to get on the court?  Doubling down on a silly claim is low floor for a poster btw…

Kid goes and tears it up in JUCO, especially once he got comfortable, as a FR...  and you guys are telling me about Bawa Maniur lol .... and Peter Jurkin. Why?

I  guess for Wilkerson it has to come down to what he wants. He can go to UK be on a roster that is full of guard and wings and might not get as much PT but will be on a top 5 team. He can come to IU and be one of the top options but might not be a great team that will compete for a championship. He also could surprise us and pick Auburn

Because you said ANY 7 footer has a low floor & they are specific examples as to how this claim is patently false.  If you had said this kid has a low floor, fine, but that’s not what you posted.

PG: Sun Belt POY (Conerway)

SG: 1st Team All-Conference (Wilkerson)

SF: Proven Big 10 shooter (Goode*)

PF: MVC POY (Devries)

C: 1st Team All-Conference (Bailey)

Not sure this has been discussed much but Wilkerson had the second best year of anyone in the portal based on Torvik’s all-in-one metric (behind only Darling). If you’re gonna spend big, that’s the guy to spend on.

Oh I totally agree. I am just going with what we would have currently if those two guys committed. I think Goode and Enright as first two off the bench means that we are in very good shape and got the guys we are all wanting from a talent perspective.

Correct. Particularly with 1 year kids the IU situation may not be the fit they’re looking for short of a straight overpay, and DDV may not be willing to do that for anyone. But a kid like Wilkerson may decide that getting a big check, playing P4 at a high profile gig, getting shots until his arm falls off and having the chance to rebuild something might be appealing if he’s the right sort. I would love for him to talk to a guy like Hood-Schifino who could tell him about literally becoming a legend in 1 year. That doesn’t happen many places.

Wasn’t any one post or poster in particular. I’ve seen the sentiment in multiple places.

Personally, given what we saw from IU last year, as well as a number of other teams, portal rankings are close to meaningless. Mgbako is still a “top available transfer” but I wouldn’t want him on this team as a simple example.

If our new coach is prioritizing culture/fit over talent I’d be ecstatic. No clue if that’s actually the case but “winning the offseason” was a Mike Woodson specialty but then the team had to actually play games.
