The news cycle is slow and this message board is a place for IU basketball fanatics to congregate. Is anyone really surprised by speculation / anxiety filling the gaps when there’s not a ton of actual info out there to discuss. It is early in the portal cycle. One way or another, right or wrong, a couple top targets didn’t end up here. That’s all there is to “analyze” at the moment. Whether we passed on them for money reasons or they simply chose elsewhere, who cares… DDV is a college basketball coach with a plan. Things don’t always go perfectly accordingly to it. Not the end of the world. Just gonna have to see how it plays out. Should be fun, but the waiting game is tedious for many. That’s valid. We were told to be patient with our last 5 coaches, and proceeded to watch them all fail for one reason or other. The first few weeks, even months, of a coach's tenure is very much the honeymoon period. Getting lapped in the portal by programs who need less than you is a good way reach the end of that phase faster. BBTB, Deserthoozier, MikeRoberts and 2 others 5 Quote

The trick is in making a great hire; when that happens the patience pays off. Juwan Moye 1 Quote
JimmerNoe Posted April 4, 2025 Posted April 4, 2025 I think a lot of this will depend on how the portal develops over the next few weeks. There is no guarantee of who will or won’t be in the portal later. Last year there were quite a few guys who got in the portal late, and when you are still sitting on a pile of money that might be a good place to be. However this year a friend and I were just saying that the portal feels different. The big rev share balloon that schools are getting might make it easier to bump up existing NIL contracts and keep the really good kids that would normally seek greener pastures. time will tell but I do think this will be the first time in a long time we have a great likelihood of overperforming the parts we assemble. Hoosier987 Posted April 4, 2025 Posted April 4, 2025 It’s funny when people tell you to be patient. This fanbase has been patient for 25 years lol, with dreadful results…and the one good coach we had, we didn’t work with — but tattle-taled on — is now a HOF coach in the Final Four with a hell of a culture and standard of winning while other schools during the same time were defending their coaches who were hiring strippers, paying money to players and having fake classes. You would find it hard pressed to find another school where the fanbase has been more patient than ours since the turn of the century. Imagine the fans and alum reactions at UK / Kansas / UNC / Duke etc just started sucking and showing absolute incompetence for 2 and 1/2 decades (like we have)…I shudder to think. I mean, UK fans were ruthless to Calipari and he had made the tournament every year practically including a Title….but patience IU nation! We’ll get there eventually…hell, law of averages is on our side. Huntnfreak, Chris007, Deserthoozier and 4 others 3 4 Quote

Like geez, I feel like I’m pretty uncharacteristically reasonable in my takes today but any concern with DD’s performance thus far is being met with giant backlash. It’s ok to admit that it’s been a shaky start. Plenty of time to get things moving in the right direction. I think it's just your profile picture. It's just nearly impossible to read your posts without some kind of anger or annoyance popping up. It's like CMW is typing your posts. Chris007 and Pagoda 2 Quote

I understand not wanting any of our guys, but I thought we would get some guys to follow you from WV besides a family member who has to. Yes agreed. I find it a little concerning myself nobody followed him. Is that a red flag? I’m unsure at this point but without the announcement of a full staff and players rejecting us with money to spend there is a tiny part of me that is wondering how this is all going to shake out? Since two of our commits have had injury issues in their careers. Sounds like that was a problem at WV last year too. Dude losing out on two of your best players maybe your best one will wreck a lot of teams seasons. It’s Purdue without Smith. It’s Duke without Flagg. It’s Indiana without Cheaney. It sucks.
