Agree that it is the future.

Disagree about those guys though. They have GMs but overt authority. In other words the GM is just a guy who works for May.  I’m not sure that’s the case here with Carr and probably why someone like Carr would come.

For fans of pro sports this has been like a 25 yr year saga of coaches wanting to do both roles, great coaches having the juice to become their own GMs, and then mostly failing. It’s why Jerry West left the Lakers. But by now almost everyone concedes it’s two distinct full time jobs at the pro level and even great coaches have little chance of exerting authority over the GM in matters of personnel.

It was the future of the pros. It will likely be the same in college. I think IU is possibly ahead—way ahead—of the curve on this one.

The reality is the head Coach and GM have to work hand in glove to be successful.  If the GM is giving the coach players that don't fit his style, only trouble results.

CDDV tells Carr, we need a big man.  Carr give him the ranks of all the bigs available, they review and discuss positives/negatives, and then pull someone like Samet Yigitoglu out of their a$$.  : ]

Carr works for DeVries.  DeVries has final say in roster construction.  That was reported when he was hired

I’m sure we all know IU’s never reported a half truth in the media to save face.

I think some of the staff is in Indy tonight so it would make sense for it to be tomorrow. Not sure what’s going on but was told at least one coach is doing something out of town.

Could be that he or his agent wanted to give suitors one last chance to have the high bid.  No reason to believe yet that anyone has offered a more lucrative deal.

Where our GM has an advantage is being able to map the agencies that rep these guys and contact them at any time. It's legal tampering. I would say Coach's familiarity with that part of it was lacking. In the end Coach has to close the deal. So it probably looks a little bit like an NFL war room somewhere in that building. I'm not so sure he's in the trenches much though. Nor should he be.
