Popular Post Hoosierfan2017 Posted February 29, 2024 Popular Post Posted February 29, 2024 If Woodson gets a fourth year it’ll be for the same reason he got the job in the first place: because he played for IU 40+ years ago. Chris said as of now that is the plan for a 4th year. I think it was maybe last week Chris said he understood Dolson had a plan, and his understanding was it was a good plan. It appears something may have changed? Or the plan was to run it back with some changes around the edges? Perhaps timing is the problem? I don't know. Guess we will just have to stay tuned and find out. coonhounds 1

It also made it cool that he was a former IU great. That was the slight disagreement. Now, just because he was a former IU great, born and raised in Indiana, doesn’t give him a pass for an extra year. thebigweave, Tom White, AZ Hoosier and 1 other 4
JSHoosier Posted February 29, 2024 Posted February 29, 2024 There's no real way to justify bringing him back. Only one player is committed so we would have to have a monster of a portal season to even have a prayer for next season. Kentuckysucks and kottke 2
Popular Post OKHOOSIER Posted March 1, 2024 Popular Post Posted March 1, 2024 The not recruiting thing last night was really bothering me, so I went ahead and spent way too long at work reading through NCAA by-laws out of curiosity--it was terrible and you guys are welcome lol. If this has already been stated by someone smarter than me, apologies in advance...that said... If I am understanding it correctly, each student can be "evaluated/recruited" 7 times during the recruiting period (1 September-30 April and limited to the recruit's high school campus or regularly scheduled competition). During that period, the staff has 100 such evaluations they can conduct which equals roughly 14 recruits visited at their school or observed playing during the season if the full 7 are burned. So, that said, we are to believe that Woody and Co. either have burned through all 7 evaluations/in-person recruitments for say Sisley or Mullins, or, that they have used so close to 100 that they want to save some before 30 April for transfers instead of 25s in Indiana. The excuse from Rabby is pure BS. Now I am more mad thebigweave, BannerVille, Muskie for three and 10 others 12 1

Now, just because he was a former IU great, born and raised in Indiana, doesn’t give him a pass for an extra year. I have to agree that this was a questionable (at best) hire. Woodson had coached in the NBA which is a whole 'nother beast from coaching in the NCAA... the skill set is different and the time commitment is different. In the NBA, he's not teaching skills, he's not recruiting players... and he gets the off season off. The gig as a college coach is by and large 24/7/365. You have to teach/reinforce fundamentals, you have to beat the bushes and make connections with the kids, their families and their coaches to effectively recruit them, and you have to be their mamma and daddy when they're away from home. Woodson doesn't have the energy for that, apparently... and it's reflected in the product that he puts on the floor... his solution to the recruiting was to hit the portal hard, rather than building relationships with HS and AAU coaches and the kids and their families... and the portal payoff was somewhat lacking in that he missed on every guard and shooter that he went after... and not having built the recruiting relationships, he's in a hard spot for 2024 and most likely will leave the cupboard bare for whoever follows him. Of course, Dolson gave him help for some of his deficiencies in the form of Fife and Marta... but Woodson did not like/want it... so here we are, dealing with all of his deficiencies as a college coach, and as it stands now, there's a good chance that he's coming back for another year.... so the downward spiral will continue...
IUHoosier5 Posted March 1, 2024 Posted March 1, 2024 The thing that is most damning about this whole spectacle is how the Athletic Department prioritizes optics over doing the right thing. If they want to do the right thing and be optically correct, it’s a fairly simple thing to accomplish. In fact, I would go a step further and say it is not difficult *at all*. With the amount of national media members from the school, one would think that they could tap into that alumni base and concoct something that makes Woodson’s exit “the right thing” for him and his family - whether he likes it or not - and addresses the vision’s target and plan. You do right by your university and this basketball program. You don’t let the history mean nothing and accept the current results and trajectory. You self-correct and move forward instead of fiddling around like spoiled brats. I’ve said my piece. A lot are to blame, so who has the cajones to admit their failure and lay out a plan of action and do something about it? LIHoosier, Deserthoozier, cybergates and 1 other 4

Oh even if they pull off a grand slam portal I have no faith this staff would get the most out of the team. This team had enough talent to not get punked by a shorthanded PSU and Northwestern. cleeter Posted March 1, 2024 Posted March 1, 2024 Say they did pull an amazing portal haul and somehow coached the team to where they were a final four contender. You would have zero 2025 recruits and then hope to have to do it all over again the year after. Playing the portal is good to add a missing piece or depth. Not good for full roster construction as we can probably all agree with. But Woody apparently knows better than us. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk pumpfake, Tom White, cybergates and 3 others 6
OKHOOSIER Posted March 1, 2024 Posted March 1, 2024 https://www.on3.com/college/ohio-state-buckeyes/news/college-coaches-weigh-in-on-the-ohio-state-job/ Really interesting article on the OSU job, hard not to draw some parallels from what coaches said about their opening and a potential opening at IU.

With that said, guys like Pearl and Calipari just aren’t going to be looked at the same way in this new era of basketball. Same with Sampson. I’d hope we don’t put too much stock in what the NCAA says anymore seeing as how they are poised to become some secondary governing body next to whatever the B1G/SEC come up with. They may even cease to exist entirely with regards to major Div 1 sports. The end of the NCAA as we know it would put a smile on my face.

Huh, it's almost like he has what wants to do and either can't or won't adapt.
