I’ll say this for Woody, he’s consistent. I think we rose color the TJD years due to how atrocious Archieball was. The Woody Warts have been here from the jump. Popular Post Hovadipo Posted January 12, 2025 Popular Post Posted January 12, 2025 Well said all around, but “callous disregard for what the program has been” is perfection. A lot of guys hated on Archie (myself included) for trying to blow off the old heads but after watching this era play out, part of me wonders if he wasn’t wrong for it. Just after the Big Ten Tournament Championship game and after the NCAAT seeding is announced. Probably before 8 PM ET. If that does not happen then...just turn out the lights of SSAH. We will see if this administration is serious about basketball in the next two months. If we continue to lose, which we will, I think he announces his retirement no later than February 1st. That's the only way he can save himself from the fans relentlessly booing him while Dusty's UM team is tearing us a new hole.

It was truly embarrassing to watch with the game that well in hand.

coonhounds Posted January 12, 2025 Posted January 12, 2025 I guess hypothetically it's fine to not fire or retire woodson until after the illinois game. Winning it will do little to give me faith we are on track. However if we get beat soundly at home it will confirm we are off track with little hope of getting back on. Day after illinois game he should go!!!Sent from my SM-S926U using Tapatalk choosierred1 1

Popular Post steubenhoosier Posted January 12, 2025 Popular Post Posted January 12, 2025 Haven’t been here for a minute (thanks Stuhoo!) Not gonna be the guy accused of not showing up. Read most of this thread and agree with whoever said that there’s a lot of regurgitation of the same ol’ same ol’. Here’s my opinion. Blast away if you feel the need. Woodson’s overall philosophy on offense is wrong and has been shown to be so over the last few games. However he is a decent X’s and O’s coach. He has also shown that he can develop big guys. He has failed to develop a sense of toughness with his teams, and for that reason we will continue to wilt and get run over by quality teams. His seemingly unwillingness to discipline guys has created an environment where the inmates are running the asylum. This may in part be due to the dynamics college sports are in now. Where the players have been given so much leverage with NIL money and the revolving door that is the portal. I think Woodson doesn’t realize, or doesn’t care that regardless of how much money these guys are making, they are still a bunch of young guys who are going to do immature things, are going to be incredibly inconsistent, and who need a firm, guiding hand… and repercussions when they screw up. If Woodson can’t do this, or doesn’t believe it’s his job to do so, then there needs to be that guy or guys on the team who will… who will get in guys’ faces when needed. Who won’t back down when we get punched in the face, but will punch back. All of our quality teams had that guy. For as much criticism he gets here, deservedly so, Quinn Buckner was that guy. Jim Thomas was that guy. Kitchell, Hillman, Mike Lewis, Chris Reynolds, Fife… all were that guy. Sheehey was probably the last guy who was that guy. Sorry for the length of this. Had some time to think about stuff. Won’t demean Woodson but he and the product on the floor are an embarrassment. Unfortunately he turned out to be a down and outing coach. Absolutely correct. Three B1G coaches were hired that year, Archie, Holtmann and Underwood. Consensus was that Archie was a can't miss home run, Holtmann was a good hire and the biggest question was Underwood. Eight years later, Archie and Holtmann are at Rhode Island and DePaul and Underwood has one of the top teams in the B1G. So much for consensus. cybergates 1

Please get past yourself CMW and do what’s in the best interest of the university you proclaim to love. We’ve gone back and forth plenty, but this couldn’t be more well written stoob. What you have described can be boiled into one major point: culture. We have a culture problem, and it stems from a lack of leadership and vision. It’s been repeated ad nauseam in game threads but we have no identity at either end. For my part, I appreciate you showing up with a balanced take acknowledging the nuance. We can all agree that Iowa was unacceptable and happens far too frequently under Woody. Chris007, thebigweave, go iu bb and 6 others 7 2

If we replaced Woody with Cig and Cig was just sort of a CEO of the assistants and team, we would probably do better than the current setup. The Cig basics of accountability, not compromising standards, no self-imposed limitations, etc. would likely do wonders for this team, which currently has no such leadership.
