They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

If our next coaches is afraid that he might get fired after failing miserably for just shy of 4 years then I don’t think he’s the right guy

If a coach is afraid they'll be fired after being as bad as Woodson they are definitely NOT the right guy.

I know nothing about nothing and I have absolutely connections at IU. But for all those worried about Woody possibly leaving and an assistant having a nice run and we end up in a Mike Davis- or Bill Lynch-type situation ...

I CAN ASSURE YOU THERE'S ABSOLUTELY NO CHANCE KENYA HUNTER OR YASIR ROSEMOND GETS THE PERMANENT GIG. ZERO. ZILCH. ZIP. NADA.

There, it's been said. No need for further talk about this.

we all know it would be Walsh anyway.... (ducks and runs)

IDS Article this morning said "Indiana Athletics Spokespeople told the Indiana Daily Student they do not have any information regarding Woodson's status"....

Osterman saying "nothing official yet around Mike Woodson's Future"..."Should the job open up"...

Longer it goes...the more of a circus it becomes IMO haha.

Admin did take a calculated risk to do this all now right before the UM game.

I see it as a ham-fisted attempt by the IU administration to head off a toxic display at the UM game. I also see it, true to form, as Woodson trying to get ahead of any announcement and control the spin... and it looks like the thing the IU admin feared the most is now upon us.

Hey, Mike, be careful what you ask for... you just might get it.

I think the confusion is because IU wants Woody to announce retirement and Woody is saying "fire me". He knows they don't want to "fire" him now or end of season if they can help it. Woody wants them to fire him for $ and so that he can use it as fire power and garner sympathy (in his mind) from a segment of the fan base/supporters. Dolson still has to play nice with people that supported Woody so that certainly plays a part in trying to make this as amicable an exit as possible.

I'm not disparaging the IDS and it's report but I need to see it reported by recognized media guys before I accept it 100%..

I worked at the IDS when in school -- covered the basketball team for a year. There were two of us. I can assure you, my partner and I were as well connected as anybody on the outside (except for maybe Bob Hammel -- who was RMK's best friend).

We certainly weren't any Woodward and Bernstein, but we were pretty dogged in our coverage. I know, however, things have changed in the past 30-plus years.

(For example, RMK never allowed reporters in the locker room at road games. We got in pretty good with the basketball SID back then -- and when RMK would go to the post-game presser, the SID would sneak one of us into the locker room while the other stuck with the Knight chat. Our colleagues who covered the team in previous seasons kept asking "Man, how do you get player quotes on the road? We could never do that.")

Woodson is getting the money regardless...

We all knew that!  He’s a delusional a-hole, who thinks he’s done his job and still has a shot at barely getting in the tournament, which must be good enough for Mediocre Mike but not us fans!  He obviously doesn’t see the ramifications that could transpire Saturday because his ego and self absorbed attitude won’t allow it.  I’ve said it many times, he’s leaving kicking and screaming like a little 7 year old kid throwing a tantrum.  Dolson should have released him altogether, big mistake and he will go out of his way to make the university look bad!

Game time tomorrow 12 eastern, if it's not announced today that Woody is "gone gone" and the contemplating is over. I will have enough time to get to Bloomington from St Louis to BOOOO him in person.  You think "The Hall" was bad during the Illinois game it's going to be a freaking zoo if Michigan get's up double figures and we just lay down and die.

I know you're joking but I'll still add why it wouldn't be Walsh. Hunter and Rosemond both have Associate Head Coach titles, Walsh does not. It would definitely be one of those 2 who would end up as interim HC.

Letting him ride out the year is just further proof we don’t have standards and terrifies me for the next hire.

What's the logic here?

IU fires Woodson and replaces him with an even less well equipped asst coach with 8 games left creating a little more  chaos than already present, because somehow this nadir of the IU mens  basketball sh*t show  just fell below IU standards?

Archie Miller finished a 12-15 4th yr campaign with 0 NCAA appearances.

People are letting their personal feelings for MW make them a bit histrionic. Whether he quits, gets fired, or rides out the waves of boos the remainder of the season has zero bearing on how the next hiring will be conducted or result.

None of this is about race... it's about ability, attitude, and performance. Woodson has failed on all three. He should never have been hired after a mediocre NBA coaching career, and definitely should not have been brought back for year 4. He's an abject failure as a college coach, and is, IMO, being judged on that basis alone.

I didn't say his removal was about race. I said I believe he is receiving racist messages.
