The “compromise” by Dolson to let this go down this way saved us some good cash on the buyout. Lot of litigation today. Make no mistake about it, this was not Woody’s decision to retire.

Probably the only thing that would cause me to take exception to what you're saying about PK is that the guy has a drive and a personality about him that will not be outworked. I think that is the absolute requirement in the college sports day we're in these days. I guarantee I've seen enough of Kelsey to know that guy was working on next year the same day he brought this crew on campus. I'm totally impressed with him so far.

Coach White Whale: Well Scott, everything looks outstanding, you all have a grade A facility, the Hall is always packed, fans everywhere I turn, heck they even tracked my planes arrival and greeted me at the airport, I would have everything I could ever dream of to succeed in terms of recruiting and NIL money, and the salary is beyond generous. But I think I will have to pass.

Scott Dolson: Wait,what?

Coach White Whale: Despite being an historic program, have you seen your recent history?

Scott Dolson: I have that's why we are looking for a new coach.

Coach White Whale: Yeah but only 3 sweet 16 appearances in the last dozen years and no conference championship in 8 seasons...eeeewwwww!

Why would a White Whale like Pearl or Oats or Drew leave what they've built at their current schools? Alabama, Auburn, and Baylor are all better programs than IU right now. Especially guys like Pearl and Drew who were giving time to build their respective programs without the fanbase breathing down their neck? It's not going to happen. There's nothing those guys couldn't achieve at their current schools that they could at IU

The only White Whale IU might be able to get is someone like Brad Stevens who isn't currently coaching and has also turned us down multiple times. And I'm not even sure he's a White Whale anymore.

...these guys are considered good coaches with records to back them up, but they don't fit in the White Whale conversation, not even close. There are only just a few to take on that label.

I'm not saying I'm on board with some of the names being put forward on here, but we will never for sure whether they will succeed or fail. Of course, we can make educated guesses based on their track records. Having said that, totally dismiss them because they aren't the "white whale", makes no sense to me.

When Crean was fired, I brought up Underwood. He has done better at Illinois than our last 2 coaches have.

I'm not sure Stevens is the grand slam he used to be, but "Indiana basketball hires Brad Stevens" is still a headline would send shockwaves through college hoops and an "oh crap" from several fanbases.

Pearl by all accounts was champing at the bit to get the job last offseason and a guy like Drew has  in state ties and knows the difference between becoming a coach locals like until they don't and becoming a legend. The state of Texas doesn't revere coaches of their third most popular sport as legend.

Oh and where did I say IU could just pick any coach in the country and automatically get them? Those three are just about as likely to turn down UNC should they come calling. Thanks for making an absurd argument.

The only point I was making is that IU has almost everything to offer a prospective coach and that recent lack of success as a deterrent was a ridiculous point.

I guess you weren't able to follow that. I will try to consider your reading comprehension level next time

We're always a step slow with everything we do and we have to watch someone else do it first. Hopefully this gets something going here. 
FSU doesn't have a guy who graduated in 1976 and an 85 years old holding its program hostage
