That’s what woody meant by being a “bridge” coach, he is a bridge to BS!

If that's the path, I fully support blowing the NIL budget this year to build a competitive team that hopefully can make the second week of the tournament at least, then Woodson retires paving the way for Brad Stevens in 2025.

I can dream.

Spoke to some people. Their concerns about Woody still not being engaged enough in the whole recruiting, especially in the portal are all still there. He's doing a little more but not still nearly enough as people would like him to. He thinks as long as the money is there, he'll be fine. Take it for what it's worth but that was passed along to me.

I didn't expect Woodson to do well because he's a lousy coach and no one wanted him after the Knicks fired him. I also didn't expect him to have the mindset that he doesn't have to do certain parts of the job; I figured he'd atleast give it everything he had because of his connection to the program.

Not very surprising I did not think he suddenly decided to pound the pavement. He is darn lucky he had top 5 nil money or he would be in big trouble imo.

This is a huge reason why I don’t like him and why no amount of success will make me change my position re wanting him fired. He needs his billionaire buddies to write checks to bail him out because he won’t do any recruiting himself. It’s like he just wants to sit back, drink wine, play golf, and show up to coach on game day 30ish times a year. All that other responsibilities that comes with the job? Nahhh.

Exactly he will likely get ballo and the guys on twitter will claim he is this great recruiter but would he get him without the donors big money ?

You would think this would lead the staff to leave 1) before the house falls in and 2) to get somewhere where recruiting is balanced differently.  Surprised we have not seen any staff changes for this or because of results.

Assistant coaches might think things are still going to work out. Someone like Jordy would stay no matter what because he might be kept by the next staff. Same thing with Calbert. Grad managers can't go anywhere

I'm not sure I understand why that would bother you if he's successful and wins a national championship (you did say no amount of success).

I look at it as it makes his chance of success unlikely to achieve that level of success and unlikely to achieve a level of success that is good enough to keep his job. So if he doesn't put in the effort he won't be around much longer. I'd be ok with low effort if it does actually work out with him being successful.

Because I don’t want the head coach of my favorite basketball team to be someone who gives piss poor effort and treats other people, including other people with IU athletics, like they’re beneath him. I want a coach I want to root for. That’s really not Mike Woodson.

Woodson should have zero excuses next season will all this talent he is buying. Zero excuses

I wish I could like this way more than one time. THIS IS SPOT ON. Woodson is all show and no go, as they say.

He's definitely not a team player if the stories are true - not interacting with other sports programs, refusing to talk to other teams when the coaches ask him to, his distain for Teri Moren and the women's program ... and those stories came from a source that I trust implicitly.

There's still the hump.  And they are a new team that needs to gel.  And . . .

Does Woodson get fired if he fails to make the second weekend with Ballo/Malik/Trey/Rice/Tucker/ETC?

I think so.
Doubt it though the expectations should be sky high for him. Still probably won't matter making the tourney will be doing his job.

Just read that the Cooks and Simons have bought Bello for Woodson. Let's see what he can do with him... still have my doubts.
Woodson really turned my off last season. He would need to win pretty big to get me excited about him again. But I fear once we get an injury the excuse train will start up again.

Realistically I now highly doubt Woodson gets fired after next season. With Ballo, Rice and Tucker (and more to come from the portal) added to Bako et al., the team should (should) be in the hunt for a B1G title, and regardless will likely do well and get at least a couple of NCAA tourney wins. The U won't fire him if that happens - and it is likely to happen.

Do I think the U should move on from Woodson? Yes. But just don't see it now.

Really, really hope Woodson finally learns what the arc is, so we can actually get past the 2nd round, but we'll likely be a good team regardless
