It’s only “good news” in the sense that it’s not as bad as it could be. But Mike Woodson screwed up the roster so bad that “good news” is still an absolutely terrible position to be in. Galloway, Reneau, and Mgbako are the only three players left who we should want playing legitimate minutes next season. So we’re relying on a guy who couldn’t fill a guard spot or two last season coming off a good season to somehow find 5 starter/rotation level players in the transfer portal coming off a terrible season.

I am pro NIL but anti the chit show that is going on now.  

If a dude wants to come to school and cut a deal with Nicks, Buffa Louies, or whomever to endorse their products, then I am all for it.  Do the advertising, print the posters, sign autographs at the door, whatever.  The deal will represent what you are worth to the business.  

To just take bags of millionaires' cash, with no corresponding value, that's a bit much for me.

Let me preface by saying that I'm not off the Fire Woodson wagon..

If IU lands Javon Small and a talented center (or Ware's Return) then IU will be top 25 good next season. Javon Small, the savior of IUBB!

We had three five star players this year and never sniffed the top 25. No way ware comes back and he is a massive loss. And the biggest issue is Woodson is still the coach.

My prior company was a long-time corporate sponsor through the Crean/Archie years.  They did a good job of getting us access and creating things for us to bring customers to but customer interest really fell off during that time period.  I was the point person for that and got some cool access but in the end I had to pull the plug.  For the same $ we could sponsor the Colts and even with their up and down performance I had far more customer interest in them than IU.  I would have to think it is even harder now for them to keep sponsors.

The value is up to those millionaires. If they don’t think they’re getting value the $$ will dry up.

Good summary. And with the formalization of this all the comments about “pocket watching” will fall flat. As fans of pro sports know it’s a big industry figuring out the puzzle of salary management. What you spend on one player, you forgo for another.  
 

Soon there will be websites, message boards, Twitter feeds dedicated to the portal, roster construction, who’s spending what on whom, etc…   
 

It’s a brand new world out there.

Leal is a good student and smart kid.  He's in the Kelley program workingtoward a valuable degree.  It was a total no-brainer: work toward a business degree and play the game of basketball while getting paid handsomely.  I saw it as the most practical approach for AL, not some great coaching job to retain a modest bench contributor.

So what that Leal got paid $5,833/point.  In the new norm, every scholarship player is gonna get paid.  I don't like it but it is what it is and moaning and groaning what any one player got paid is just pointless.  

The comments Trey and Anthony made at Senior Night would not have been so negatively received had not Mediocre Mike flipped off the fans and already set a bad tone.  But even at that how can everyone be so upset being told to "chill"?  I'd wager some of you have children who have told you to "chill" or a similar word and you don't give it a second thought.

If you don't make a habit of it, read through the game threads and see the comments that are directed at our players.  Not just 1 or 2 but every one of them have repeatedly been brow beaten and degraded at some point in the season.  Sure they made bonehead plays and demonstrated low bball IQ at times but for the greatest part of the season I truly believe they played as hard and as good as they could with the skill levels they have.  Not their fault roster construction was the pits.  Not their fault the style of play Woody insisted on playing didn't play to individual strengths.  And some of you are upset you were told to "chill."  In hindsight, I wish Anthony had used some kind of words far worse than "chill".  FO or KMA come to mind.

I still won't be totally surprised if Reneau puts his name in the portal to just see. 

I can see Mr coming back if money is all he is interested in. But without ware down low he will foul out of most games in the first half.

Really no different than last summers talk. Gunn and banks will be major contributors. This team will be better than last years team. I would not want to play us come March. Woodson finally has his roster. Same talk every offseason but it never really materializes. Woodson is still the coach so expect underachieving.
