Maybe longer. Maybe the governor pardons him. Maybe the governor pardons him and gives the warden a lifetime appointment to the IU BoT. thebigweave, theriverpilot and Chris007 3

I personally thought that when we moved on from Crean we shouldn't have moved on as quickly as we did -- we were one year removed from a Big Ten Championship. Archie Miller I was just more upset that it didn't work out. I still say that on paper Archie Miller should have worked out but it didn't. The hiring of Woodson seemed strange but if you go back on my timeline you'll see I was all for giving it a chance. Mike Davis ended up losing support of the some in the fan base for his failure to recruit Indiana, but that is something I really haven't felt was that improtant. If you can play I don't care if you are from Mars. And yet here I am with Woodson saying we've seen enough after three years. I see in no way him ever addressing or fixing what is wrong. To me you can either give a guy who you know isn't the answer and then try to bring someone into an even more damaged product or you move on now. Next guy may or may not have it, but in my estimation that is better then sticking with something you know doesn't and refuses to listen or answer to legitimate questions. I'm going to have to disagree. If we got a ball player who was from Mars that would be huge, world changing news. I would care. tkbbn, RaceToTheTop and FritzIam4IU 3

A large part of the IU fan base believes that he will further damage the program by staying another year. IMO, Ngw does not view this as a significant enough risk to make the move. This is not an assessment I would believe he shares with most posters on here. And it's not because we are just clubbing together. It's because we ARE concerned about where he takes the program. I know that he's said you don't 'make a change just to make a change'......but I don't think that he believes that for most of us that is not what we are looking to do. You can't simply ignore the trajectory the program has taken under his watch. taco corp, Home Jersey and thebigweave 3

RaceToTheTop Posted March 9, 2024 Posted March 9, 2024 FWIW, I hope I am 100% wrong about what would happen to the program next season if Woodson returns. rcbowla Posted March 9, 2024 Posted March 9, 2024 The foundation of the program is eroding quickly and you don't repair it by just hoping it fixes itself. Keeping Woodson is not only hoping it fixes itself but letting the guy that cracked it to begin with be the one to over see it. If you think that Woodson staying another year is in anyway beneficial to the long term health of the program you are (stealing a quote from Scott Coffield) "either lying or stupid". How can a head coach not have had those conversations yet? Yes, things can change, but having a gauge on who might/might not come back should have a huge effect on recruiting. Why have that conversation when there are over 50 games left in the season? Oh, right... lillurk 1

I think as the season has gone along, Woodson has decided he wants to focus on the portal only so.he can get proven, experienced players. Hes had to rely on too many young guys this year and would probably be happy to never rely on underclassmen again. Not sure this is even close. Woodson came from the NBA where recruiting doesn't exist. He came wrapped in the trappings of a mediocre NBA coach. By and large, pro players of the NBA caliber don't need to be taught or "coached up", and they definitely don't need to be recruited. NBA coaches may have input to draft choices and or free agent acquisitions, but they have the team owner and the GM to handle the "dirty work". NBA coaches work from just before pre-season starts through the end of the NBA Finals... and they take the rest of the time off. The job of college coach is 24/7/365. Woodson had no clue about what was required of a college coach. He doesn't have the energy to go 24/7/365, and apparently doesn't have the interest in working that much. He doesn't know how to recruit, nor does he know how to teach the game. He has stated several times that it's "not my job" to get shots for the players. Instead, he is relying on NIL and the portal to secure players that he thinks are worthy of his coaching... no muss, no fuss, instant winner. Except for the "we're a young team", "we're still getting to know one another" and more of his sound bites. Recruiting? He doesn't want to do it. He doesn't bother to try to build relationships with HS players, their coaches or their families. He doesn't even know their names - referring to Flory Bidunga as "Cory". He had to be told by Scott Dolson to go watch Braylon Mullins play in his HS sectional game. Woodson's recruiting has dried up because of Woodson.
