But…… There is no question that X is “uneven” but lets face it. X went 8-11 from the FT line but if he was still injured Cupps probably would have gone 0-0 from the line. As a freshman Cupps is mature for his age bringing up the ball, not making mistakes etc but we need a PG that can influence the offensive side of the court. X can do that (and he can also frustrate us). Cupps has to learn how to impact the game on the offensive end for him to really contribute. X has issues but still manages to be our best ballhandler, penetrator and sometimes best outside shooter. His questionable decision making keeps him from being our best player night-in night-out. True but I’d imagine the majority of those are through help D on digs and jumping passing lanes than his on-ball defense. But I’d love to be wrong! Couldn’t be happier for the kid though. I’d love for him to be an effective, scoring wing. Heaven knows we need it. str8baller 1 Quote

I love guys having the instinct to jump passing lanes, Quote
Loaded Chicken Sandwich Posted January 7, 2024 Posted January 7, 2024 Late... But WOOO!! And great game by CJ Gunn. Hopefully he can really build on it. By far his best game. Kid better be ready to shoot because Reneau is going to be getting the double early and always. RaceToTheTop, jonz44 and Whoozhers 3 Quote
Popular Post Hovadipo Posted January 7, 2024 Popular Post Posted January 7, 2024 From my perch wayyyyy up in the balcony: -We overcame a terrible crowd. Worst “pretty big game” crowd I’ve experienced by far out of a bunch of “pretty big games” in there. To be expected somewhat with no students, etc. I guess. Place was packed too. Just odd. -That game was a war down low. They uh…let the boys play. Did it come across that way on TV? Both ways too btw…I didn’t feel the refs had much effect on the game outside of living at the monitor at the end. If you went in the lane you were getting hammered. -Cig unexpectedly (to him) got put on the videoboard and immediately went to the overhead double fist pump. Hell yeah, brother. -If we get that X more often than not the rest of the way, we’re dancin’. The drop off from tonight’s X to Cupps is jarring. -Good s**t, CJ. About time. Now stack some of those. hoosierdogg, Hoosier DaDa, lillurk and 11 others 14 Quote

It's just a tough group to watch. I found myself watching tonight even though I kind of didn't really want to. I think they've sort of sucked the life out of us with the blowout losses and close wins, and we're kind of just their prisoners for the time being because it's still a bit too early to throw in the towel. JSHoosier Posted January 7, 2024 Posted January 7, 2024 Well, it's a win. 4 turnovers is great and 14-4 differential can definitely make a difference. 40% from 3 but not a lot of attempts, only hit 5. John would be a boost if he could play like that more often. Unfortunately you never know what you'll get minute to minute, let alone game to game. Got destroyed on the glass and gave up 22 offensive boards. That has to change. Still need more from Mgbako. Not looking like he should be one and done. Definitely not Ware's best game either. He needs to step up, we know what he's capable of. Reneau looking like our best player from game to game. Quote

I have to disagree about the crowd tonight - as you pointed out the students were not there but the game also conflicted with the Colts game. But, from where I sat the crowd was unexpectedly good and the balcony was pretty much packed on the West side (I didn't look over my shoulder to assess the East side balcony). I think that a lot of folks who don't get to attend B10 games like this did a GREAT job of representing. Perhaps it was just a vantage point difference that leads to our difference of opinion? thebigweave and HoosierHoopster 2 Quote

Blame the NFL for point one. Think most peoples mind was on Colts even at game checking their phone. I was one of them. Crowd is always less enthusiastic for these break games but NFL moving Colts game to same slot at last minute took a lot of juice away. Quote

Could be. Terrible crowd is 1) relative to AH and AH only and 2) probably a little harsh, but the first half energy was pitiful. It got a little better at the end with some big plays down the stretch. People being distracted by the Colts game is LAME. No sympathy for that from me. Lock in folks. Quote
