In my opinion, regarding modern area resume, Bill Mallory is the closest type of hire IUFB has done. Maybe DiNardo? Everyone else doesn't even come close, including Hep. The thing that sets Coach Cig apart from all the other hires is his longevity of success. I personally think that's a big deal and we'll see it right away.

I remember Mallory as a coach but not when he was hired, which is what I'm mostly looking at. At the chance to hit the floor running and have a quick(ish) turnaround of the program.

Definitely as far as resume, no past coaches can match that. I'm glad his personality is very different from CTA and some of the others.

IU was usually in the running for a bowl game under Mallory (it was harder then) and occasionally ranked, so I'd be happy with that.

Broken link. Looks like they changed justin to jack.

I really like this part:

But, man does he assemble a great staff and he has an eye for talent like no one I have ever seen.

That guy was kind of critical of a couple of the assistant coaches coming to IU, though. Miller (RB coach) and Cain (special teams/TE), in particular. With Cain, he was critical of him as a special teams coach and complementary on him as a TE coach.

That's pretty awesome.

I'd love nothing more than to just have the ability to blow a big first half lead.

I hear that. Of course, if it ends in a win it didn't really matter, but not good for the heart/lifespan...

This.

And... he CONTINUED to build on JMUs success.... they were loaded at their level, and then obviously in the fun belt.. 19-4? Their first two years in FBS.

So, when you're the big dog... Michigans of the world, as JMU was at their level, you don't really take those risks... it's not needed.

Sabans the same way. When you're the CLEAR better team.... with all that being said, I'd be more interested to hear his philosophys--- seen the percentages of what it was like at Elon. Not even necessarily trying to prove anything, but I'd like to know what his decision making was like when he was there, that would be much more comparable.

I'm hoping Coach Cignetti can do for IU football, what Bo Ryan did for Wisconsin basketball. I remember when Wisky hired Ryan and I thought why are they hiring this old guy, then Ryan made Wisconsin a legitimate basketball program for the next 15 years!

Fun fact: Wisconsin-Platteville beat Manchester College for the 1995 NCAA Division III hoops title.

Bo Ryan was at Platteville at the time, and Manchester was coached by ... our very own Steve Alford.

Guessing most on here would know that, but I find it interesting.

Manchester was undefeated until that final game.

Turns out Matt Canada was the best part of this horrendous Steelers team.  He's an IU football guy, are there any openings left on Cig's staff?

Or what Barry Alvarez did for Wisconsin Football. They were bottom dwellers before he took over.

I'm getting a little worried that every transfer/recruit we're getting is a JMU player/offer. I'm fine with some of the roster being made up with this caliber player but we're going to need some B1G level players as well. I just don't see a SBC roster competing in the B1G.

We've gotten 2 recruits and a Wake Forest transfer, calm down some. James Madison would have whipped our behinds last year and a lot of those kids were initially recruited as FCS players.

I’m a little concerned too when you add in the fact that most of our staff is going to be made up of JMU guys too. Like, look, I understand the benefits of continuity and working with guys you’ve worked with in the past. But the Big 10 is multiple steps up from the Sun Belt and we were the worst team in the conference last year, so we need some big improvements.
