Also, didn’t Jerry mention we would know before the tournament starts? As in we would announce the new coach? If that’s so, definitely whittles down the list in my opinion….would not be anyone with tournament hopes and if they are an active coach who isn’t going to make the tournament why would we choose them?

With IU's NIL war chest and the transfer portal, this is the first time where I don't think we need a home run hire. We don't need to win the press conference for recruiting and status.

We need a coach that can build culture, identify the right players, is a tireless worker and knows his X's and O's.

For the first time, we just need a basketball coach, someone that lives and breaths the game.

If IU can find that in a "home run hire" then great, but winning the press conference isn't a requirement this time IMO. We just need a basketball coach that wins games.

IMO, because of our war chest and the transfer portal, we’ll get a home run hire.  And then there’s no stopping us.

I’m not saying you (or anyone else is wrong about this) but is there any truth to this claim other than folks seeing the buyout as a little low? And it’s not really super low for a guy jumping to P4 from what I can research. I just don’t see anything to support this claim.

From an SI article

If May decided to leave Michigan, the amount he would have to pay Michigan back (with “reasonable written notice”) would be as follows:

• April 1, 2025 or before: $5,000,000 + 1,513,000 signing bonus. Total is $6,513,000.

• Between April 1, 2025-April 30, 2025: $5,000,000

• Between May 1, 2025-April 30, 2026: $4,000,000

• Between May 1, 2026-April 30, 2027: $2,000,000

• Between May 1, 2027-April 30, 2028: $1,000,000

• Between May 1, 2028-April 30, 2029: $500,000

Lower than Woodson. IU got taken to the cleaners on that contract.

While rumors will certainly float around about the coaching search there is ZERO chance Dolson officially lists who he went after and who turned him down.  It would be nutty/stupid for him to do that.
Can you imagine getting hired only to have your boss put out a list that said “We went after Bill,, Bob, Mary, Joe, Frank and Katie but, after being turned down, we had to settle on SlammySammy. Not going to happen.

Hey…I should be higher on the list than Mary, Frank and Katie…ok, maybe not Joe but still

No he played at Wisconsin-Whitewater

But he was an assistant there for awhile.  He has a lot of connections to Iowa St.   make an offer and make him say no.  I agree with Demo he would be number 1 on my list

@Chris007 I know that we are all hoping for option 1 and have reasons to be optimistic, but in general how confident are you that Dusty would be a definite yes if it got to him? I know there have been some reports since last year that maybe he wasn’t as locked in for IU as we initially thought, but wondering if you had heard anything suggestive one way or another.

I have not. I’m not sure if he’s our #2 or not but I think he will be someone we will want to talk with as soon as the season is over if we don’t have a coach already.

Have you heard anything new about the Brad Steven’s train being ramped up again?

It's laughable that you think THEY negotiated an easy buyout so he could jump ship to IU instead of making it easier for them to can him in the event that he didn't pan out. C'mon now

They’re two different buyouts though. They owe 70% of remaining pre-bonus salary if they fire him, which starts around 15 million after this year. His buyout for resigning starts at a bit over 6 million after this year (5 million + his signing bonus) and drops each year.

Rabby said that his agent is telling people he has no interest in listening to offers.

Would imagine that’s true, at least in season. But you make the call.
