Trish Posted March 8, 2021 Posted March 8, 2021 I emailed Scott and told him to let me know first if there is a head coaching decision. It feels appropriate I break the news. Chris007 and Stromboli 2

They are going to be looking for as much stability as they can get. It's not entirely relevant but it sucks for Archie, Morgan, and Leah that they are moving from their community of the last 4 years. For Brad, it would help that it's somewhat of a homecoming for him and his family, and we don't know how they, as parents, feel about their kids in Boston. Agree that an additional $1 million annually to Brad means so much less than future stability, in job security and otherwise. Have I mentioned Brad handled rushing me when I was was a wee freshman at DePauw? He was an ATO. He failed to make a successful pitch, so I feel like that's a pretty serious knock against him. I think we can do better. Thats too bad he couldn’t close the deal. We could of been brothers. I was an ATO at Indiana St. secret handshakes and all. But we seemed mostly lost without CZ. Or if he cared at all about defending. But, For sure: Crean >>>>>> Archie Miller. Who woulda thunk it. Indiana CAN and should do better than both of them. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile app He did win a Big Ten Title without Zeller, though. lillurk and Stuhoo 2

EDIT: Is this the money Chris was talking about? Brad said no the other night and we decided to reward Tom Allen with it? I'm okay with this decision. LOL I come away with the exact opposite thought....if they have the money to extend Tom Allen on March 8, they have money to replace Miller. Also interesting that it said restructured, not extended. Back loading a deal can mean freeing up current money. thebigweave, lillurk and Rookie33 3

I get the vibe IU doesn't want to wait around. The talking heads on ESPN will be all over it. I can see it now, Greenburg and Bilas arguing that Indiana should've gave Archie another year and it's a "bad look" to fire a coach in a pandemic. Friday afternoon? Considering we’ll be playing in the BTT championship on Sunday, that seems early. bigrod 1
RaceToTheTop Posted March 8, 2021 Posted March 8, 2021 I’m kind of surprised no one is mentioning Bob Huggins....I know the issues with him, but when I hear the Bruce Pearls and Scott Drew’s of the world through around for jobs, I think his name would as well. woodenshoemanHoosierfan 1

Fantastic coach. I would love him as coach. I think no one is mentioning him because he got taken home, county roads. He was born in Morgantown, transferred and played for West Virginia. I think he is home until retirement. lillurk and woodenshoemanHoosierfan 2
lillurk Posted March 8, 2021 Posted March 8, 2021 If it’s gonna be someone with P5 (or Big East) HC experience, here’s a list of names we’ve either dreamed on, mentioned, or otherwise discussed who fit the bill. Note this would eliminate the Fife, Gates, Shrewsberry cohort. (as pointed out above it would technically eliminate Stevens but LOL) “Almost no chance” tier: Stevens, Donovan, Wright, Bennett Age, health, compliance concerns probably eliminate: Beilein, Kruger, Pearl, Huggins. Matta? check the price/willingness to move: Oats, Beard, Mack, Drew also mentioned but probably long-shots: Musselman, Enfield, Mike White (FL) 8bucks, GaryP and thebigweave 3

So moving on... Beilein & Matta seem the most likely- need to be vetted for ability and drive. I say proceed with extreme caution, but proceed. Any red flags should eliminate them, IU can't afford to find out Beliein has lost the fire in his belly 2 years down the road or have Matta tapping out because of his back after a couple of seasons. Either would be devastating. I have stated before that I can't imagine why Drew would want to move, BUT fine with kicking the tires. Still he isn't a magician. Took a good while to get things rolling in Waco. IU should be a faster turn-around but not sure it's fair to expect a dramatic turn. Similar feel on Beard & Mack. Sadly, IU doesn't offer much over current jobs without a lot of grunt work first to return the shine. Oats is the most interesting to me for personal reasons and that he is young and has some results to evaluate. Seems like a winner on the trajectory for big things. lillurk 1

Except for the part where it was Mack that reached out to IU and not the other way around. That’s what makes that situation more interesting IMO.
