North Carolina fans wanted Hubert Davis fired the year after a conference championship and also after taking them to the title game his first year.  IU would have built Woodson a statue with those results.  IU is no better or worse than any other fan base.

Brownell has been at Clemson 15 years; he's won 53% of his conference games, made the tournament 4 times, and finished top 5 in conference 6 times.

Let's not gaslight ourselves, that would be a bad hire and he would fail here.

He doesn’t have a sexy resume, that’s for sure. In fact, the only reason he’s mentioned is because he’s from Indiana I guess? But again, if Dolson is hiring a guy like that, then we all know the real status of Indiana Basketball.

That’s because winners can turn around a program in a single season in the portal/NIL era. Louisville just went 18-2 in the ACC. Coach Cig just took freaking IU football to the CFP in year one. Arguably the worst P5 program in the country. I have absolutely zero interest in waiting around 2-3 years once again to see if the coach can turn things around. Whoever they hire, he needs to be someone who can win immediately.

Actually good coaches don’t worry about this, they’re hired to win, they expect to win, they have built a history of winning

Sounds like something I would say, but if you do have the thread links, he was on my short list behind Brad, Billy, and I want to say Fife? Let me know if you find them because I’d like to see my short list again after Crean was dismissed.

The issue with McCollum is experience at this level. Not style of play.

Most people don’t even notice pace unless they look it up…myself included.They’re always surprised to learn Jay Wright or Hurly have teams deep in the 300s in pace. 
 

A good one is Sampson he’s had some really slow teams lately. And if you would’ve asked me before I looked it up I would have bet you they were at least upper half. Nope!

Also on a personal reassuring note, just talked to a former early Knight-era player whom I cross paths with ever so often at our grandsons basketball games. Said IU has vetted Beard and his transgression that got him fired from Texas wasn’t even the first or even second time it has happened. Similarly related instances in prior relationships with a repeated pattern: booze and anger problems.

He didn’t outright say Beard wasn’t a serious candidate but feel safe in drawing my own conclusions that he isn’t.

Louisville has also only played 2 top 50 Kenpom teams since jan 1st.  Their conference schedule is abysmal.

He's from Indiana and his name isn't Mike Woodson.

Solid point. Personally I like get up and down, transition D play, but so long as the teams have a balanced O with outside shooting, wing actions etc., pace becomes less noticeable

IU use to be only one of the few programs that spent a bunch of money on their programs especially in the B1G.  They dominated recruiting in the Midwest because they were one of the few that was nationally televised most of their games.   Nowadays everyone spends money on basketball.  Sec 10 years ago started spending and now look at what they are doing.   In the B1G Wisky and others now spend money and there are no longer guaranteed wins in the B1G.  Coaches know where ever they coach they will no on TV.  I have access to 99 of every college basketball game if I want to watch it.   Times have changed.   History tells you IUs next coach will more then likely be from a non Power 5 program

I just don't see a reason for the guys like TJO or Drew to leave for this job because they can win there and with less pressure. Why do you think UK had to settle for Pope or UL with Kelsey. Top coaches don't leave for other power conference teams. It shouldn't be real hard to understand that

Sampson’s team is an absolute wagon. 19-1 in Big 12 conference and undefeated on the road. Think about that…19-1 and undefeated in the road. I believe 19-1 is a Big 12 record.
