It could be something as simple as the overall money stays the same (or close) but the contract length changes. For instance, if $100M / 10 years ($10M/year) is the offer and the counter is $100M / 8 years ($12.5M/year) or $98M / 7 years ($14M/year).

I have no idea if that is the case, just throwing out a possibility. 

I'm pretty skeptical about Stevens even getting as far as negotiations and doubt he's being considered at this time.

If and that's a big if, if he were to come to IU I highly doubt he'd bolt quickly afterwards for another NBA gig other than going back to Boston and definitely not for the Butler gig.

I mentioned him about 3 weeks back... agree, if it's not among Stevens, OTZ and Drew, give me DeVries and let's go...

Some times I post tongue in cheek, but the Darian Devries love is absolutely merited.

Long time assistant at a top program, six years crushing it at Drake, and winning in 1st year at P4 without his best player.

Longtime assistant with some great coaches and won big at lower levels. DeVries sounds a lot closer to Cignetti than Ben McCollum.
