we have been irrelevant for quite some time.  if becoming relevant means hiring Cronin(which some think is a boring hire) and we settle for yearly tourney appearances, sprinkling in runs to the sweet 16s and sometimes further, by all means sign me up.  We have not had this type of success in quite some time. If you think otherwise, you are blind.  Rome was not built overnight.

He wins, google him(no shot at Cig here).  With how NIL in constructed, when/if he is the coach and he gets IU back to winning(winning cures alot) those kids leaving Indiana to go elsewhere will want to come to IU and play.  I am looking at you Mullins here.

Yes, I want more banners on the wall. But let's be honest, how many posters here actually saw the last title that IU won?  Not me, I was boring in 1990.  Get this team back to constant tourney runs, big ten champions, etc and let the rest fall into place.

And **** yes I am. Have daughters. Do you?

Also, I’ve said my peace. Won’t sabotage the thread any longer.

You're putting a lot of assumptions out there.  Sounds a little sexist to me.

I get what you’re saying, but like you said all things being equal I think we need to get somebody in here that has plenty of energy and excitement to build a program in the right way and not just rely on NIL.  I just think for the long haul and to get somebody that’s gonna be here for a considerable amount of time there are options of younger coaches out there that I think would fit the bill and be better than getting a coach for 5 to 7 years and then have to re-hire again.

Many of us thought that about Archie. He was a bust.

That is a terrible contract.

I don’t follow recruiting much anymore, so if he has a good class coming in I can see that buying him a year. With Guthridge, iirc, it was clear he was the type of assistant who never recruited and they had nobody coming in. His “retirement “ was swift and painless. He also wasn’t a liked former player like Hubert. I would bet that if you polled UNCs fans half are ready to move on, especially the younger ones.

Missing the tourney 2/4 years is just unacceptable at UNC. Doherty is literally the only one to do it in the modern era and we know what happened to him.

Might be an interesting story to follow from the perspective of gauging how long a program icon can maintain major influence. He was Roy’s guy and he goes to every game clearly as a show of support.

Can’t say that I’m out on Cronin after last night’s comments…

Because I was never in. I tried telling you guys this is how he acts when things don’t go his way!

Yup. People get immersed in X’s & O’s because they’re sexier, but jobs like this are about wiring and temperament.

Whining about 7500 fans booing in their almost 14,000 seat gym lol. Brother, a sparse crowd at Assembly is roughly Pauley’s capacity. You’re not built for IU.

Kelsey didn't coach a game in a P4 conference and Pope has 0 NCAA tournament wins. They did not.

Time will tell, but Kentucky could be where we were 4 years ago…..

I know you’re just brainstorming and speculating, but in a scenario where Dusty knew the IU job would be open in one more year (everyone could see that was likely) him taking the Michigan job at all, even with the lower buyout, makes me think he’s not coming to IU. I see very little reason for him to move after 1 year unless it’s that important to him to be so close to family that he can see them every day if he wants. Maybe he does. Think he’d be a great hire. Just wish the timing worked out last cycle. Hoping we didn’t miss the boat, but think we did.

This was always the risk of not firing Woody when a serious program would have. Dusty’s earning/job power could only go down staying at a job as bad as FAU. He was always leaving whether it was for us or someone else. Anyone thinking Dusty has a low buyout because he “knew” IU would most likely be open is huffing paint. Both of his buyouts (vol/nonvol) are relatively low. It’s for the same reason a not insignificant amount of people here thought Dusty “wasn’t ready” and “needed to prove it at P5” before getting a job like IU. Dusty didn’t go into a negotiation and say, “Thanks, for giving me the first high major job of my career, but I’m am going to need you to leave my voluntary departure buyout reasonable to help a conference rival hire me away next season in case they fire their shitty coach and I turn out to be a good coach.” It’s utter nonsense. We missed the boat. Hope I am wrong, and I’m not saying I don’t think one day he will coach at IU, but I have a really hard time believing it will be next season.

Looked spectacular last night.  Only lost to the powerhouse Minnesota by 3, at home, and scored a whole 61.

How’s IU doing this year? Or the last decade? Culture of losing. God forbid we change that.

I think because they gave up a 15 point lead

Thanks for the response. Unless that’s a regular occurrence or indirectly related off court circumstances frustrating the fanbase, don’t think your home fans should be booing in that scenario. I’ll have the unpopular take here lol. It is on the coach to make sure the home environment is an advantage. That means doing your part to win… but fans have to do their part too. A coach holding the fanbase accountable is not inherently a dealbreaker for me. The way he said it was not good, but I get the sense some people don’t want a coach who will ever say anything to fans other than thank you.

I'm not sure what point you think you're making. At home.. to Minnesota.

It's become evidently clear that, unless the hire is BS, there are going to be unhappy folks regardless.

IMO, we are not a blue blood program anymore. Can we restore that? Possibly. Should we be turning our collective noses up at highly qualified candidates that check most, but not all the boxes? I don't think our cache these days warrants that. I hope whoever is named the next head coach is given some time to acclimate and get a chance to instill his culture before any part of the fanbase turns sour.
