General Coach Candidate News

Too lazy to read back . Why all of a sudden two  out of three insiders not as confident in we have our guy?  What has changed.? Never bought  it anyway but still had some glimmer of hope.

From what I have gathered: RTZ stated 60/40 in favor of May at this point.  Didn't elaborate.  Chris and the others are still hearing positive things about Stevens.  One guy who knows a BOT member said Stevens wasn't interested in coaching.

Yeagley and Chris are still strong pro Stevens unless I missed something. A couple others seem to be hearing things positive for Stevens.

One of the new guys is the only one really saying there is no chance. (And Chris hinted he heard the opposite today)

Same old it’s either going to Stevens or May (other candidates, if it’s not those 2), but at the end wait around the BTT about a potential decision. Which is what I’m going to do

It’s not gonna be Stevens.

I think Dusty is a very solid chance. But not guaranteed.

Indiana is gonna have to do a lot of back channeling to create a roster.

If we hire a coach that makes a tournament run we will have limited time to get things rolling. I imagine our AD is very cognizant of this.

I think we ultimately probably regret not getting Beard in the long run.

Yeah 100%. It’s not Stevens. Dusty is the guy if we can make it happen. Young, alum,  has the actual pedigree. Im in. People need to accept that BS isn’t coming here. We do this every coaching cycle. It generates clicks. Let’s be realistic

Stevens is an option til he says no. Not sure why some think that isn’t a thing?

He's turned it down before. Plus he left college to coach the Celtics then he chose to leave coaching to join the front office.

Doesn't seem like he really wants to be a coach anymore.

After watching/listening to some IU people I'm starting to think Drew might be a real possibility. I just don't think it'll be Steven's because, come on. I also don't think it'll be May for multiple reasons including the fact IU is cutting ties with one of their own this year. Do they want to run the risk of "running 2 of their own out" in consecutive cycles? Idk anything but I'm trying to view this logically.

We can try but Stevens isn't walking through that door. I'd love to be wrong; IU needs a grand slam hire, they cannot keep whiffing. Not many hires would say "we're done screwing around" quite like that.

I don't see May leaving Michigan after one year, and I wouldn’t be enthused with that hire anyway.

If the alleged Stevens money was available for other coaches that might make it easier to hit this one out.

I am going to go out on a limb and say that Scott Drew's version of Christianity would not preclude him from leaving a Christian school.  Would seem funny if a coach threatened to have a player deported if they didn't go to their school would draw the line at coaching at a non-Christian school.

Please try to show Scott Drew a little grace.  It must have been a little chilly there in the shadow of such a paragon of Christian virtue as Dave Bliss.  For all we know he may have been led to believe that as long as he didn't hand out extra benefits or sign any murderers he would be given a free hand in recruiting.  Of course murder, even more so than extra benefits, is kind of a big deal in Texas.  I think you also need to remember that in Texas getting someone deported isn't considered as "unsporting" as it might be in the Hoosier state.

Now that NIL compensation and the NCAA's new revenue-sharing plan have provided so much financial latitude in recruiting, the Baylor job has probably become a lot less inhibiting for Drew.  IU fans are naturally biased, but with all of its rules and restrictions and considerable distance from the border I don't see how the Indiana job would be all that attractive to him.  Unless Dolson is willing to allow some wiggle room when it comes to signing murderers I just don't think he would see it as a step up.
