68 conference wins in a top 4 conference 3 sweet 16 with one of those being an elite 8 appearance with a 1 pt loss to go to the Final 4.  Down year still made the round of 32 and TBD on this year.   All that in a 5 year period. Yep sign me up all day everyday.   A coach that can produce that is a coach that can compete for a national title.

More importantly, he's producing that at Creighton. Think what he could do at a program with the resources of Indiana.

Yep it's a game of opportunities. You have to give yourself enough opportunities to get to a F4/Natty and typically you'll reach a F4 eventually. Only concern with Greg is that his opportunities are on a bit of a cap with his age. That said hire the man. Or Drew. Or TJ. Or a few others

5) There is talk among the staff that a certain coach is being lobbied for heavily by Dolson.  Think James Harden.

Ok, spicing up the thread today with Eric Olen and Herb Sendek references is certainly fun. Ain’t gonna be either of them, but definitely more interesting that another day of are we desperate enough for Chris Beard talk.

I’ve heard it does but you never know when he gets the mic

One thing he won't have this year is the 'I'm going to be here as long as I like' line.  And unlike last year, he went through a stretch where fans were visibily booing the team.  Someone who can read a room knows that sentiment isn't going to be with him.  Of course, he can't read a room.

I don't get the feeling as well that the players are all that sympathetic of him.  From what we've heard, Ballo doesn't respect him.  Bako and Tucker certainly don't.  I have a feeling that Rice and Reneau aren't happy about coming off the bench.  Leal and Galloway had his back last year but it seemed like they weren't coming back until they saw how their NIL was going to increase. His assistants certainly aren't behind him.

Hard to win when you score 55

And allowing opponents to shoot 75% from 3 on 30+ attempts. I mean these are 2 reasons for starters

Buddy of mine well-connected in Texas just called me to tell me he's hearing Joel Osteen is getting some consideration from Indiana. Could be nothing. Just thought I'd pass that along.

IU couldn't pay him enough.

I doubt it too but he’s a perfect fit other than that one thing.  If Beard was a choir boy I’d probably choose him over Brad if I was Dolson.

Do you really value the Knight connection or something? Even if he was a perfect choir boy he wouldn’t be in my top 5. Clearly a good coach, I have my opinion and I think it’s all moot since it won’t be him. But I don’t really get the obsession.

IU brass is coming around to the idea of Chris Beard in Bloomington. Lots of conversations by his agents behind the scenes this past weekend, trying to prove that he is a new man. Not a done deal, but it’s trending toward at least a possibility.

Don’t shoot the messenger!

As I stated last night…

I see ‘Inside the Hall’ dropped this today as well. https://www.insidethehall.com/2025/03/04/indiana-basketball-coaching-search-profile-chris-beard/

Can't be him, he doesn't like taxable income.

You may be right but I don’t think ITH doing a profile is what would indicate that - they’ve done one on everybody discussed on this board and will continue to put out profiles of coaches people are talking about broadly speaking

I mean…he’s either producing in a big time conf. at a school with more home fans than IU or he’s at a small school who would be elevated by IUs resources. He can’t really be both.

He’s sort of neither fish nor fowl in this one. I can see why opinions vary wildly. For all the “B level” candidates I think I like watching his teams about as well as any.

Beard Twitter account following/followers interesting. He follows IU Soccer and is followed by Malik Reneau and Adam Howard

I think Malik was looking at the last season in the portal and probably again this season. Howard is looking for a job. Who knows why Yeagley is :-)

Let’s rock and roll. Maybe this is why the Woody burners have tried to disparage him as much as humanly possible. Seems it’s worked though because BTBers generally won’t give him a chance.

I’m torn, because I would NEVER…. And I despise it. But I also don’t know the facts enough to be a real judge of character.

I understand the hesitation with Beard because of his personal issues he may have outside of being a basketball coach. On the other side of all that, the thing that intrigues me about him being the coach compared to others on the list is that IU is clearly his destination dream job that he would crawl to get to. People who want a job that bad would do a heck of a job at making sure they’re a success. Like I said, i understand not wanting him and agree with those points, but there comes a time where why would you want to have to continue to beg and bribe a coach to want to come here when you could have a solid guy who dreams of having the job….are there better candidates? Absolutely…but I wouldn’t be upset if we ended up with Beard (even though I doubt it’d end up happening).

Did he give you tickets in a pew near Joel?

I'm all for Beard getting the job but to be fair he had his dream job at Texas and screwed it up. IU may be dream job #2 though.
