General Coach Candidate News

Stop overthinking it guys. As I’m sitting here I’m cracking up at all the hand-wringing, arguing, name calling. What’s even funnier though, will be all the “I love you man,” and “hey, sorry man I’m just a passionate Hoosier fan,” and apologizing that will take place in a very short period of time, gonna be a lot of happy times, and winning, ahead. You guys are awesome. Settle down though, and enjoy your weekend, Scotty D is a legend.
This post made me realize I owe iueyedoc a apology. My post yesterday was rude. I am tired of beard getting crapped on and took it out on him. Now let's get stevens

Will say that the last week has gone nicely, comparing the merits of Cronin and Drew and arguing about Chris Beard. Am happy to continue that, and wait to be surprised if someone else emerges. Don't know if I can handle muted optimism leaking from the board into the Twitter-space again.

So McCollums teams play slow, Bennett's teams play slow, therefore McCollum's ceiling is Tony Bennett? You are basing that off of nothing. Yes, what he did at the D2 level is impressive. That means jack squat when it comes to succeeding at the highest level of college basketball.

I meant to include IU profs statement in that rebuttal. He said McCollum’s ceiling is Bennett. So i wasn’t basing that on nothing. Just improperly cited.

In disagree that his results at d2 and now year 1 in d1 mean jack squat. It’s an indacator of future success. Now he’s done it at multiple levels.

we will just have to agree to disagree bc it doesn’t seem like we will find common ground here. That’s ok.

If not Stevens or May

Then:

Alford

Schertz

(young tennis star, Interesting relationship with dad and mom, on his own at young age from a million dollar dad)…..Schertz NIL would get players that play for the school and him.  Community liked him because he wins. (AD from ISU could see it)  ISU had a president that was out of her league.  (In both basketball and baseball).  Schertz is smart.  Team plays 21st century and still is a no nonsense type coach.  Entertaining.  People would like this guy and is well spoken (interesting and fun to listen to).  High energy.  And less of a risk than many that are mentioned because he can coach and the IU NIL would allow him to put together the team chemistry that he would be successful with.

Spin the bottle and pick one….Let’s go.

Tom Crean - 1 FF, 4 Sweet Sixteen Appearances, 3 Conference Titles, 11-9 record in the NCAA tournament

mick Cronin - 1 FF, 4 Sweet Sixteen Appearances, 4 conference titles, 15-14 record in the NCAA tournament

very similar resumes

Tom Crean - 56.8% career winning percentage

Mick Cronin - 68.3% career winning percentage

What is hard to understand about the fact that Crean’s highs weren’t what got him fired, if was his inconsistency/lows? If Tom Crean had 15 years at IU that Cronin has had at Cincy/UCLA he would absolutely still be the head coach. 13/14 (14/15 counting the covid year) tournaments, zero seasons with a losing conference record, 1 season with more than 12 losses versus 7 seasons with single-digit losses.

The Crean comparison is lazy and frankly makes no sense.

Cronin is mid tier. Take a chance on someone that has a higher ceiling.

SLU has shot 38, 29 and 38 three-pointers the last three games. That would be fun. The Hall would love it.

He was considered in the top five last time around?

Do you think Dolson offered him the “head coach in waiting” tag because he HOPED he would be a good head coach one day?  In fact, part of me wants Fife to get and kill it here just so Dolson and Fife can show Woody and Crew what they missed out on because of their arrogance.

We ended up hiring Mike Woodson-  Fife would be an upgrade and no one would care more.

That said, he isn’t in the top 10 of my wishlist, but Id rather have him than Cronin or Buzz.

Which realistic coaches have better bodies of work than Cronin?

Our conversation started with why McCollum over Cronin. My answer is because I’d rather take a risk on a guy like McCollum who could be the next A tier coach than hire a guy who we already know has peaked at B tier.
