So is there renewed Stevens talk in the Trilly discord? I swear I’m going to bite the bullet and spend 6 bucks one day but today is not that day.

It’s a whole lot of nonsense. Been on the Brad train the entire time, but there’s been a lot of dooming in there. It’s fun but it’s a lot joking and not much substance. Trilly does pop in occasionally to let us know what he knows, but at this point he’s not sure what’s going on.

To me, it’s that I think Mick Cronin would produce similar results to what we saw in the Tom crean era and McCollum could be better.

McCollum is riskier but has a higher ceiling IMO

Why would Cronin produce similar results to Crean when he hasn’t for the past 15 years? Crean’s last four years at IU he went 17-15, 20-14, 27-8, and 18-16. Cronin has lost more than 12 games in a season once in the last 15 seasons. I guess he’s Crean if you make Crean’s bad seasons better and his good seasons just as good or better.

On the basis that Fife was originally brought here to be coach in waiting. Things did not go well while he was here, but I don’t think that was his fault. He was considered in the top five last go around, so what’s changed?

I think Buckner had a list of 2 and we got stuck with #2.

Coaches are allowed to have bad years

I never said they weren’t. I was arguing that he would produce similar results to Tom crean. And someone said he would be better than that. Tom crean got fired one year removed from a big ten championship and a sweet sixteen for having a season like Cronin had last year. If crean wasn’t good enough, don’t hire Cronin.

Here we go again with the pace argument….. pace is not a determinant of success in college basketball. It’s not. Efficiency is.

If McCollums ceiling is Tony Bennett then sign me up. Thanks for proving my point that McCollums ceiling is higher than Cronin’s.

And your comment that he was “buried in D2 without sniffing D1 until recently” is absurd and shows your ignorance towards the matter.  He was approached multiple times by D1 schools and was selective in choosing Drake. He wasn’t buried in D2….. he completely dominated it.

So McCollums teams play slow, Bennett's teams play slow, therefore McCollum's ceiling is Tony Bennett? You are basing that off of nothing. Yes, what he did at the D2 level is impressive. That means jack squat when it comes to succeeding at the highest level of college basketball.

Crean got fired for more reasons than wins and losses.  missing out on 5 top 100 Indiana kids in 1 recruiting cycle will speed up the process.    Lose the state of Indiana high school coaches and your not going to last long as the IU head coach.

I've tried saying that before. People go "I'd love to have Matt Painter as coach". Brother, we would have fired him after flaming out early with the Hummel era teams and followed it up with multiple bad years.

No doubt. But this is worse than any mike Woodson year. In addition to that, his comments about the fans booing the other night should raise major red flags. This is one of the issues we’ve complained about with Mike Woodson. The true fans fiasco. Cronin, imho, is an awful fit for the IU job. I think he’s a good coach. I don’t think he’d be good here.

Tom Crean - 1 FF, 4 Sweet Sixteen Appearances, 3 Conference Titles, 11-9 record in the NCAA tournament

mick Cronin - 1 FF, 4 Sweet Sixteen Appearances, 4 conference titles, 15-14 record in the NCAA tournament

very similar resumes

Stop overthinking it guys. As I’m sitting here I’m cracking up at all the hand-wringing, arguing, name calling. What’s even funnier though, will be all the “I love you man,” and “hey, sorry man I’m just a passionate Hoosier fan,” and apologizing that will take place in a very short period of time, gonna be a lot of happy times, and winning, ahead. You guys are awesome. Settle down though, and enjoy your weekend, Scotty D is a legend.
This post made me realize I owe iueyedoc a apology. My post yesterday was rude. I am tired of beard getting crapped on and took it out on him. Now let's get stevens

Will say that the last week has gone nicely, comparing the merits of Cronin and Drew and arguing about Chris Beard. Am happy to continue that, and wait to be surprised if someone else emerges. Don't know if I can handle muted optimism leaking from the board into the Twitter-space again.
