Cant believe I’m going to say this, but I actually agree with not naming a new coach so Woody can finish the year without being completely humiliated. 
 

Now, of course, anyone with any self awareness would have stepped down immediately instead of trying to perpetuate some farce about it being his choice, but Woody is still a human being and IU legend and can be afforded a little grace despite him showing none to the fanbase.

I don’t think he has the energy to recruit like he used to.  IMO, when he was really successful, he was collecting a lot more talent than other teams at his level.  Early at Ohio State, he was a very aggressive recruiter who collected a ridiculous amount of talent.  When that fell off, so did his winning percentage.

Interesting he just went on barstools PMT yesterday (Came out today) was asked about the IU job he said if he was Dolson he wouldn't even look at anyone else and hire Chris Beard. 

He said Beard is a top 3 coach in the country and is exactly what IU needs and would have IU in the top 5-7 in the country every year. Wonder what kind of favor Pitino owed Beard? LOL 

I thought maybe they were represented by the same agency but I guess Pitinos agent is the famous Drew Rosenhaus

So not sure this was the intent, but Mar 7 is one day before senior day.  Rememeber last senior day when Woody was making a lot of friends with his comments?  Should a leak of Stevens occur then, that would be interesting timing.

Yes, exactly, I was unclear but that’s what I meant.

1. Team’s season ends, either senior day if they miss the BTT, at the BTT, or in the NCAAT

2. National hoops reporter breaks the news at the time IU and new coach want that to happen (Twitter and/or live tv break-in)

3. Local reporter (Osterman) confirms it almost immediately

 4. IU sends out a release, schedules an introductory press conference for the next week or whatever

That will be awkward for May as he is still coaching Michigan but thats his problem.

Because there is only one real logical time to announce our next coach and that is after our current coach’s job ends. That day - end of ncaa tourney is a relatively small window

There are several others I’d try for before Beard, but other than that Pitino is totally right.
