Do you get the sense that whoever becomes in charge will have full control of the team with no outside influencers trying to get their way? The person that I would like hired should have full control of every decision. Granted I would hope they listen to ideas but in the end I would like to avoid a “too many chefs in the kitchen” scenario. On this note, I’m optimistic we can get our athletics org chart fixed in the next few months. Scott has the long history at IU and he’s developing a track record that will allow him to fill the power vacuum when Quinn leaves. The next BoT Chair should be less interested in meddling with sports. The donors should be embarrassed and neutered after their Woody support, so they will pipe down. Pam should be supporting Scott and providing cover from bad outside influences. If the above happens things will be much healthier with Scott running the atheltic dept and therefore he can be held accountable for the teams’ results. Cig always references Scott and Pam and constantly thanks them. That’s who he interacts with and that is exactly how it should work. No trustees, donors, old mentors… these are all bad influences that should not be involved. I hope our next bball coach talks about Scott and Pam the same way Cig does. That would be some much welcomed stability after 25 years of people meddling with the bball program. VFury, Kentuckysucks, thebigweave and 9 others 12

It’s highly unlikely. Not sure how old you are, but there’s a part of this that you’re missing. Family ties become more important as life progresses. The desire to be closer to his parents can’t be dismissed. Stevens has made plenty of money. He’s been successful everywhere he’s been in his basketball career. His parents are at the stage in life where you never know. Being able to help them if needed may override his position in Boston. From everything I have read about Brad, he was raised in a very supportive family. Maybe he feels it’s time to repay his parents for all their love and support. Hornsby Posted February 9, 2025 Posted February 9, 2025 This is by far the most likely scenario with May. He turns the open IU job into a raise and extension. I thought we already had our guy. There’s no guarantees in life. But I believe what I’ve been told. I know the facts about what has been done and we’re preparing to do are in place right now. And if it does happen to go a different way unexpectedly, I’m very confident and happy with our “miss” scenario. This is much different than ‘21 replacing Archie. Coaches were looking at IU and saying I’ve got to go in there and be successful with those players, and even recruit some of them to come back - and I need to be competitive year one and two. NIL wasn’t in play yet. Flipping a roster wasn’t a thing like it is now. A coach now says, I’ve got more resources than almost every team in the country and will be able to get whoever I need to fit my system. And I get to be a hero for one of the most storied programs you could choose from. We had to scramble last time and heard “no” more than thrice. This week we’ve got major names in coaching reaching out to express interest. So yes. Objectively, we might get another kick in the dick. But I feel good right now we have our guy. We can’t miss this time. I myself am excited. All is good. Any time table about a start date? I’m guessing before the Indiana high school state finals

Popular Post Magnanimous Posted February 9, 2025 Popular Post Posted February 9, 2025 Dusty May is a good coach, but I’m not ready to hand the keys to this program over to him. I’m not convinced he will transform this program into anything more than being in the top six in the conference more years than not. I know he has a FF run, but one run doesn’t make a prime candidate. “He’s been to a final four” = let’s hire him! ”He had a four game winning streak against Penny Hardaway’s Memphis team, Fairleigh Dickinson, Tennessee, and Kansas State” = big deal… May should keep Michigan competitive enough, but he’s a “can-miss” candidate if there ever was one, and if he didn’t go to IU he would be about 8th on this list. Brad Stevens, Chris Beard, Ben McCollum, Bruce Pearl, and Nate Oates are the five guys with enough of a demonstrated pedigree to be the real candidates here. - Stevens will be a long shot no matter what. He also hasn’t coached college in a decade. - Chris Beard is an alcoholic who abused his wife. He’s a perfect fit at Ole Miss. - Bruce Pearl is about to be 65 years old and has no reason to start over. If it isn’t Stevens, get Ben McCollum (who is the best coach in college basketball), or go get Nate Oates, who is a very good coach with a little more of a pedigree at this level (and an $18m buyout…). kottke, Home Jersey, MikeRoberts and 6 others 8 1
Scotty R Posted February 9, 2025 Posted February 9, 2025 I hope and pray whoever we hire that the fan base will actually give him a chance before we make a judgement on the hire. Who cares if it runs the press conference because everyone loved Crean after his press conference saying it's Indiana. I know it won't ever happen because some people will ***** to just to ***** but let's be a better fan base than that. T White, Scooter T Washington, JF87 and 2 others 3 1 1
