And the fact that shams, or woj have not shot it down yet it a bit curious IMO. Seems like one of them would have shot the rumor down by now if it was a pipe dream by IU..

Do they shoot down rumors like that normally? I know Woj breaks big news and all but do they spend time worrying about rumors.

I mean it’s a pretty big “rumor”. the Head coach of a marque franchise possibly going back to coaching college. They shoot down rumors that are less interesting than that.

You think less than 12 hours from the initial announcement they are going to start shooting down Stevens rumors? These guys aren't IU beat reporters, although some of them are more interested in soccer these days.

But Stevens is in the NBA, woj and shams probably have 10 Rolodex full of sources. If this is true I bet it has been circling in NBA offices for a bit.

From what I’ve been gathering in that the decision has been made and was reason donor ponied up to pay buyout, it HAS to be a home run. IMO, that means it’s one of these 3: Brad Stevens, Chris Beard, Scott Drew. If I had to choose one, I think the most likely/realistic is Chris Beard.

You basically just summed up the Crimson Cast podcast.

Its a bit of a conspiracy theory, but things do sort of line up that way.

Interestingly, Beard is literally at Assembly Hall this week playing in the tourney.

I think its Drew or its Beard. Either way I am happy.

Beard is the one I see as least likely, personally. I just think his family ties and his current salary will keep him in Texas. He's already getting north of $4 million/yr. Would love to be wrong though.

Scott Drew isn’t a home run IMO.

Two Elite 8’s in 18 years?
Archie got one and CTC got one and a final four in less time.

Plus, he’s supposedly reached out to Durham? Who does this if they’re being recruited to coach the school he’s leaving and could stay another Covid year?

Well he could ask him why he is leaving. What the team is like. Is Nicks as good as folks say.  Maybe if you stay we can get a Stromboi next year.

Let’s talk Chris Beard. Is he a home run hire? Does his team score enough points to satisfy some of us? Is he a sure thing? Will he come with family situation?
