DeVries may work out. I think the initial reaction by some, including me, is: that’s the best IU could do with a top salary and NIL? I don’t think it will matter as long as he wins but it’s not like he has a strong track record in a power conference. In the end, it’s more of a realization that maybe it’s true that top coaches just don’t want to coach at IU. So we take the best of the middle of the pack and hope they break out. And he may. I’ll support him 100%.

Drake was never down before McCollum got there because....

How many of those players stayed after last year and how many transferred out!

The reaction to this hire is exactly why i was so against the people pushing the Stevens delusion. We just pulled a sitting power 5 head coach who had no reason to leave his current job to come to IU and people don't like it. Unreal

Too early to start the Fire DvD Thread? (just kidding).... :92:

I'm about as excited about Devries as I was Miller. I won't be shocked if we're here again in 4 years.

We were on the same boat for Archie. I’m excited about DeVries. I think he will do a good job. Won’t win the press conference but I think he can win here.

If this is True.   Dolson had no real plan in place.  Or he got shot down by everyone.  No way he Waits on DeVries until tournament is over if he was in tournament.

This is the most ultimate of settle hires.  But it adds up.

If Dolson was working on it that long, he had a plan. But unlike some people have difficulty believing, Indiana is a job people said no to.

Just look at Drake's 6 seasons, prior to Devries getting there.  Then he rattles off 6 straight years winning at least 21 games every year at Drake.  Turns around a West Virginia team that was 9-23 last year in his first year!  This guy can flat out coach and could be locked in for the next 20 years.

Not to sound overly optimistic but people who say they'd rather have McCollum... I understand that, but McCollum inherited a program that was already rolling at Drake, and brought in his own extremely effective system. I'm not discrediting the fact he's won 30 games, that's an excellent record. DeVries won very close to that number multiple times, having built Drake from the ground up himself. He's not just a proven winner but also a proven program-builder and recruiter. That's what we need.

I am sure McCollum will end up right where he wants to be (Iowa) and will be a nuisance in the Big Ten. Only time will tell.

West Virginia is not IU

Dolson just put his job on the line

This is just my opinion on this, if it is DDV it is 100% because Dolson can’t have a failure a complete failure and he sees this guys floor higher than McCollum’s. Worried about his D1 experience, recruiting, etc. maybe I am nuts but if it is those 2, I roll the dice on McCollum. I need to obviously learn more about DDV it sounds.
