  1. Yeah -- Tuck got fouled. But it shouldn't have come down to that. This was friggin' ugly.

  2. So I will ring in here, I think it was fed up after Woodson and at a certain point, you could tell this team just isn't built to do the "it" we want it to. They are about at their ceiling right now which is to squeak into the tournament and probably be one and done. They are still in a position to do that but honestly you kind of look around at the programs in our area and after just seeing a national title run in football and sitting around watching 19-12, 8 minute scoring drought, can't defend very well basketball just isn't that exciting. We have been "rebuilding" for 10 years and frankly the program is just stale. The crowd was stale. The play was stale. There is just no juice, like it doesn't even really excite or bother me too much while watching the games anymore. I was all in on the football team during the CFP run and when I contrast it to this it is the difference between being invested and watching out of habit and nothing better to do. And when the bulk of the team is going to be gone next year, you aren't even watching for the future. The argument we have heard the past 10 years is that the fan base has held the program back with our negativity and we all just need to shut up and go away for awhile until they get things cooking again. They are getting their wish. Twitter was about as docile after a disaster like last night as I have ever seen out of the fanbase and that wasn't because of understanding, it is apathy.

  4. I'll take the other side of that prediction. I think he'll be remembered for the IUFB transformation and 16-0 National Championship season. It's probably the best story in college sports history. IUBB stunk long before Scott took over, so what's happening isn't new. I guess if he ends up needing to hire two more MBB coaches and he flubs those hires, and IUFB falls off... maybe the MBB struggles start to be more top of mind when it comes to him. That would be grim. We'll know in 10 years or so...

  5. We have cheered for a mentally soft (minus a year or two) IUBB program for the last couple decades. Last night was nothing new. You can’t blame the refs (who were bad) for a Big 10 loss to a bad opponent when you don’t score for 9 minutes. That, within itself, is soft. Excuses are soft. Giving up leads- often mental let down. Getting pushed off spots and not being physical on cuts- mental softness. Guys, our offensive stuff is pretty good. But if guys aren’t maintaining spacing, cutting hard, etc it’s all a sign of mental letdowns. Until the team shows some mental fortitude, many IU fans will stay home. This is the same stinking song we’ve been listening to since the mid 90’s.

They say he's not involved with coaching, but if the Lakers win a game next week 58-54, you'll know why.

  7. I call bullshirt that Devries initiated this. Entirely possible that Devries agreed that this was a good idea, but Carr says he had zero prior relationship with Devries. Carr and and Dolson are fellow members of the fraternity of Bob Knight IU student managers. Dolson and Carr clearly have a long-standing pre-existing relationship, and to me this is clearly a Dolson initiative.

  8. Carr in his media availability this morning says the job came together in just the last 10-12 days, he never thought he’d leave the Pacers. He’s emotional talking about leaving them…had really worked his way up there. You don’t make this move without complete confidence in the coach and administrations vision to build a winning program.

  9. The IU Basketball administration has been so inept so I won't give them credit for this, but maybe they've stumbled into something with this Carr guy? Everyone is raving about him and he's a proven NBA front office guy. Maybe put him in charge of the entire operation, including the coaching staff? Build a real, NBA-style front office with a department of scouts, recruiters, analytics people and NIL experts, and put Carr in charge of the entire thing. You then minimize the need for the coach to be the "face" of the program and university, and you just need a real coach. You no longer 'need' an Izzo, Pitino, Coach K, etc, etc. The coach doesn't need to be a recruiter, NIL experts, scout, fundraiser, mouthpiece and all of that stuff and can just coach. It widens the available talent pool because you no longer need a personality, you just need a coach. Make it a pro operation. Outside of the players, the face of the program for the Celtics is Brad Stevens, for OKC it's Sam Presti, for the Eagles it's Howie Roseman and for the Seahawks its John Schneider. I don't know, just trying to come up with something.

  11. Can’t believe I am now wishing Woodson did get 1 more year. At least we would have the rumor mill to look forward to. What does Devries get, at least 2 more?

  13. Tonight’s performance with an NCAA tournament on the line was all on the coach. How can you not get your players ready to come out and kick butt in the second half? We looked like a Woodson coached team tonight falling short after leading most of the game.

  14. You can piss and moan all you want Devries but we lost this game when we didn’t make a basket from the floor for 9 minutes.

  17. Been making this comp for years. Only big difference is Nebraska left the conference that, at the time, was mostly regional plus was their recruiting hot bed and no longer playing on the plains/Texas completely changed how they built their rosters. The thing that makes them like us is that they did it to themselves, just like we have for however long now.

  23. Two things can be true: 1) That 2nd half was s**t from a butt. That’s on us. 2) The officiating was so bad that DDV needs to go on a warpath bad enough to get suspended for the MSU game.

  27. I've said since we won...nothing hurts me we are football national champions. This basketball team hasn't affected me in years but even less so these last couple of seasons due to football. Love being a football school!

  29. At the risk of getting tangentially off-topic, even with a 'meh' basketball team I will be just fine and a very happy Hoosier fan. It's because due to the combination of decades of less than successful basketball and a now historically incredible football team, my focus has changed. Much like basketball used to be the headliner for my IU sports focus and football was something I watched and hoped for a good moment or a good giggle? Now my IU sports focus has been reversed, only with a dramatic difference: Before the past two years, I was focused on a moderately/not successful and extremely frustrating basketball team, and I tolerated an unimaginably bad football team. Now? I am focused on an extraordinarily, unimaginably successful football team, and I tolerate a meh basketball team. That's a fantastic upgrade for my Indiana University fandom.

  30. decent line up for tonight! Always watched the big east and big ten (of course)....but I think I am gonna take a page out of @Uspshoosier book and try to enjoy other leagues as often as time allows...with our season not being the best. St. Johns at Uconn Florida at Texas Georgia at Vandy and several other games tonight should make for a nice little line up

  31. Currently 42nd on Kenpom. 39th in O and 60th in D. Almost the exact same profile as last year’s team if you flip the O and D around. I’m still mystified as to why we had to eliminate everyone from that roster, mostly just Reneau though. If he’s on this team we’re likely closer to 20 wins and in the tourney. He’s the exact type of automatic bucket in the post you could go to in order to break those late, long scoring droughts we go through.

  32. All the stories during the playoff run were about how much we were spending and how we bought the team, so much so Cig had to publicly rebut that in a presser. But that’s exactly what I’m talking about, only in reverse for basketball. People see winning and assume big spending. For basketball people see losing and assume a lack of money. All the circumstantial evidence around the basketball program points to us being a big spender—most offseason articles had us comfortably in the top 10. In fact, it’s highly unlikely Devries himself would leave another P5 program for Indiana if he weren’t guaranteed a top level spend. He’s simply doing a bad job.

  34. Actually im 100% IU basketball fan and 100% cbb fan. I can just separate the 2 when IU is a middle of the pack mid program and still enjoy the rest of college basketball when they are. I still suffer with every game like the rest here. It is what it is

  35. I don’t understand why this isn’t widely understood and accepted. Indiana may have a great talent pool but they don’t check the boxes outside of throwing money at the program which by itself won’t change things. We are recruiting kids who are the children of parents not old enough to remember IU winning a championship 40 years ago. And the facilities are mid. Can the program evolve into a powerhouse? Sure. Absolutely. But so can dozens and dozens of other schools.

  36. After tonight, Dolson needs to seriously think about the direction of this program. I realize the situation Devries inherited was dire, but this team is not without talent, and the mistakes they made tonight are the same mistakes they've made all season. Poor fundamentals, excessive dribbling, excessive reliance on the three point shot, questionable combinations on the floor, questionable game management. Periodically hot shooting has been the only thing covering up a multitude of sins.

  37. WTF kind of attempt was that by Tucker with 1.1 left? I've been very forgiving of the team this year, but that sucked. Hasn't been fun being an IUBB fan in a very long time. Whatever. At least we have football.

  41. A lot of officials often try to outsmart themselves and not call an obvious charge like that. I don't think officials need to fear DDV per se, but there's no way we shouldn't get that call at home.

  42. Great sequence from Miles there - Avoid a TO by coming to the pass, dribbling through traffic and dishing for a Wilkerson 3. Happy he is back in the rotation. Would really help if he can be a contributor next year.
