Zachman was projected to be an every down guy for a pretty good P4 defense until he got hurt. There’s a ton of film on him for the best staff in football to have decided he fits. Riley Nowakowski undoubtedly was consulted and vouched for him. He is likely a budget friendly option, which can allow for $$ for more high-profile additions elsewhere. In summary? Excellent!!

I don’t know much about the guy, just what I’ve read this morning. He seems versatile (converted LB) and he’s pretty stout for a safety at 210, so it makes me think the staff sees him as a utility guy that can play in the box and out in coverage. He doesn’t seem like an every down guy, but either way he definitely doesn’t strike me as the type of guy you take “instead of” Perich or anything like that.

Sounds like the results of this weekend are going to make Hoosier fans very happy.

I was thinking along similar lines but about Devries and how none of these things applied to him coming. Basically none of his staff came, basically none of his players or recruits came and instead of bringing in a culture, staff and players we ended up with a harder complete rebuild.

I don’t have any intel on this, but one way to look at it is per Cig the player retention and future plans discussions happened the week after the BTCG. I would guess the QB room plans were known and in place before the Rose Bowl, which as we know went well. Maybe I’m wrong, this dynamic crossed my mind too, but this is why I’m not too worried. And the opportunity is so big Fernando wouldn’t let his team down even if he disagreed with the QB plans (and who knows how he or Alberto actually feel).

I don't think the first game will have much bearing on this one. Both teams have played a lot of football since then. Whoever executes their game plan the best wins. Cig will have them ready.
