  1. I tend to agree with this. He does not appear to be a great person, or at least he has a wild temper with his wife according to the 911 call. That said, IU has a major ego problem. We're so self-righteous about our cleanliness, that we can't get out of our own way. Literally every other program in the country laughs at us for trying to present this crystal-clean public profile. Guess who is winning at recruiting, not getting in trouble and stacking up wins or banners year after year? KU, Duke, UNC, UCONN, UK, Baylor, Houston, Arizona, Texas, Oklahoma, Auburn, Alabama, MSU, Tennessee, etc. Give the self-righteous pride play a f'n rest and hire someone who knows how to win. I'm so sick of this. 25 years and we still can't figure it out. We want to win but we're not willing to sacrifice anything to there. The NCAA does not give a flying f*ck about cleanliness. They care about money. Get Buckner out of the way and make a Cignetti-type hire for basketball. You're welcome.

  2. Just saying, if Caitlin Clark was on the IU men’s team, she would be the lowest level walk-on in the history of the program. The hyperbole is getting extreme ‘round here.

  3. The guy who "knows" everything actually does know quite a bit and is pretty selfless. He has zero to gain and shares insight with a rabid fan base as a gesture of kindness. People attacking him when his sources are wrong need to find better things to do with their time. Would you rather have someone with an inside track or no one? Stevens was a thing until he wasn't. I also have sources who were close to this. Things fall apart - it is what it is.

I’ve posted this before around these parts, but it’s worth posting again. Thad’s health was fine by 2021. There was no physical or any thing like that Bs report. (He took the butler job just 11 months later.) The idea was floated to him. He didn’t want the job. Thus there was never a formal offer. Why might someone turn down the job? Two reasons. First, as any honest Indiana fan will admit, the culture of the program is in a bad spot. It has been for a long time. In light of the resources and fan support, given the (lack of) success over the last 25 years, one can make a compelling case it’s the worst program culture in college hoops. According, any bright candidate who already has a pile of money and doesn’t have the desire to completely overhaul a program may want to steer clear of the head job. Second, and more simply, Thad loves living in Indy and loves Butler. He was never taking the Indiana job and he’s never going to take the Indiana job. We need Josh Schertz, and we need to clear out the whole program and anyone in the AD’s office who touches the program.

  5. Pretty sure that ship sailed when they hired him; it's so stupid it bears repeating, they hired a guy that hadn't been a HC in nearly 10 years because he played here 40 years ago. No serious program even gives him any consideration.

  6. Counterpoint: you've brought nothing to this board beyond repetitive criticism and vitriol. Some of that is welcome, but preferably balanced if not outweighed by insight, humor, rumors - anything other than pot-shots at other posters really. It's cool that you've got a line on Beard's finders fee or whatever. We get it.

  7. Breaking the rules and beating the **** out of your wife are two different things. Hire Sampson, Self, Pearl, Calipari, Pitino, or any other shady-@$$ coach who broke the rules of basketball, but hiring Beard is a different thing and we have to stop pretending like it isn’t.

  8. No, you haven’t. You have not seen anyone say the words “we will need to give Woodson 4 years to get it rolling”. And even if you did, shame on you for being the guy who sees something posted “on twitter or another board” one time and falls for it, can’t see beyond it being an opinion that the overwhelming majority of the fanbase doesn’t share, and does the “a lot of people are saying…” nonsense.

  11. While he’s not Pearl or Beard, Shrews will bring Markus Burton with him and have Sisley and Mullins committed within a week. That’s at least a foundation. Both those kids want to be Hoosiers so bad but can’t risk their livelihoods with the current staff.

  12. No hyperbole in my post. It’s my opinion, but it’s true. And I suspect that Caitlin Clark would agree. Indiana 2A boys high school teams would beat Iowa women’s… really easily. She’s a 6’0, 150 lb guard that plays a foot below the rim and is a career 38% shooter from 3, with a smaller ball. She’s being guarded by 6’0 players that play 1 1/2 feet below the rim. And she’s the best college women’s player in the country. I love the women’s game! Doesn’t have to be the best in the world to be entertaining and enjoyable!

  13. I've seen enough. Normally I'd say that after getting us back to the tournament in back to back years after not having been for four years straight, he could have a pass for an off year. But this year is SO ugly and so full of the same issues we've seen throughout Woody's entire tenure that I've lost all confidence in our ability to actually be competitive with this staff. Sure, we will probably win a few more games here and there. Maybe even an upset or two. I hate to be harsh because I'd have liked Woodson to succeed here, but I honestly don't think the team could do anything else to convince me it'll be worthwhile to have a fourth season with this staff. The fact is, this team never had a chance because of roster construction. And it STILL has enough talent that it should be performing way better than it is. Woody's post game comments are particularly dry and lacking tone. Things are going to get ugly... I hope the admin spares us all the ache and pain after this offseason. Not getting my hopes too high though. All I know is I can't torture myself by watching many more performances like yesterday.

  14. Interesting hearing his philosophy on how many guys he likes to play and why. Will be music to many people’s ears in here. the entire interview is great but his comments about his rotations starts around the 5:05 mark. This is a Chris Beard level guy without the baggage. Personality seems big enough to be able to win at IU. He checks every single box for me personally.

  15. How often are the fans actually wrong? We knew Crean was done. The pipeline had dried up. Bombed in Georgia. Archie never got it going. Currently 10-12 at Rhode Island. Stood on the 3 point line during a game last week. Woody had bad stretches each season and managed to rally in Jan/Feb…. But he had TJD last two seasons to make up for it. If we let recruiting dry up (again) it’s going to be hard to turn the tide (again). Sent from my Fisher-Price Flip Phone

  17. Sure we do. Our identity is obvious. We're a tall team that can't rebound and gives up second chance points. We're a team from inidiana that can't shoot the basketball. We have long stretches every game where we won't score We're terrible free throw shooters We don't guard the 3 ball It's a brutal identity, but it's an identity

Sports banalist says inflammatory controversial B.S. to get clicks, get name out there, sell products. Shocked, not shocked. I have not listened to him much since he was proven to be unsuccessful at Bowling Green State U. in Ohio. Only thing he knew at one time was some Xs and Os. Just a shill shilling. It takes no preparation to be opposed to something. That is Dan D. By the way, sometimes part of what he may have said might have a kernel of correctness. But he surrounds it with soundbites and platitudes and attitude. Heck he would have made a great engineer if he could add or understood physics. Since he is perfect. Now, back to our regular scheduled complaints...

  22. It seemed like the Boogie Fland commitment to Kentucky was the beginning of momentum swing towards suck. Things were ratcheting up until that moment and have been in free fall since. As great as McNeely, Queen, Fland are, And believe me they are all really good, thinking those guys carries us to a top 10 team all as freshman in todays game is fools gold anyway. That’s not college basketball RN. Look at the current UK roster to demonstrate it best. They are absolutely loaded with young talent. You can’t really have more. And see what it gets you. Gotta use the portal like a freaking samurai or internally build. But both really and have a vision and plan.

Woodson built this roster, if it already needs rebuilt then just go ahead and fire him because he screwed up pretty spectacularly building his roster to begin with.

  24. For me the drop off in 3 point shooting started when the actual staffs decided to not prioritize 3 pt shooting and recruit actual knock down 3 pt shooters. They recruited ok to good shooters but never a knock down elite shooter like they got coming in next year with Mcneeley.

  27. Here's what needs to happen. Find the absolute best coach available within reason (guessing guys like Beard and Pearl won't pass muster with Whitten & Co.), and when he arrives for his interview, present him with these. That way, you have a guy with Indiana ties ...

  28. Alec Lasley in HoosierIllustrated.com Read the story if you like, but it's his last paragraph that sums it up. My message to Mike Woodson? It’s time to look in the mirror and actually do what you are saying — get to work and get them over the hump. No more excuses. Don’t put it on the players; it’s on you. https://hoosierillustrated.com/a-bunch-of-miscues-that-we-cant-have-this-late-in-the-season-saturdays-performance-fully-encapsulates-the-cracks-with-indiana-basketball/#google_vignette

  29. For a 3rd year coach with our cumulative talent, that is strikingly bad. It’s like worst or second worst of any major conference bad. I’m going from memory but only Creans first two rebuild teams being much worse than that. Other than former player and he deserves 4 years, there’s not a lot to point to in the “bring him back” category.

  32. He’s a basketball coach paid to win games, something he’s extremely good at. Once people realize IU isn’t hiring Beard to become a priest, the type of person he is off the court is irrelevant so long as he does his job. But yes, we are a self-righteous bunch.

  34. No, but you can recruit it. Part of a coach’s job is to identify such players and bring them in.
    4 points
  35. I think it’s more due to politics and he’s vocal about that too. I don’t want to get into that here, but I think IU politics and Dakich politics are diametrically opposed.

  36. Okay… you don’t like “of all time?” So strike that. IN MY OPINION she would be the lowest performer of any walk-on we’ve had at IU. I think she’d be pretty good but not the best player … in the managers’ game at IU. In fact, I’m 99% sure of that.

  37. You’d love all those things about her until she was owned in practice by Shaan Burke, who I suspect also has heart, hustle, and shooting; he was a really good three point shooter in high school with a full size ball.

  44. For reference, the thread that originally started as Fire Archie Miller and transitioned to Archie Miller Fired reached 87 pages in a span of 2 months. The Fire Tom Crean thread that transitioned to Tom Crean Fired reached a whopping 1,089 pages and stretched from Jan. 2014 to July 2017. Woody's got a lot of ground to make up.

  50. I think we stopped being serious about basketball after we kept Archie as long as we did. Zero chance he lasts four years at UK, UNC, Kansas or Duke. Programs that are serious about winning don't give a crap what others think of them. We're always worried that coaches will find us unattractive, players won't want to play here, people will think we aren't patient enough, etc.
