  1. Karen is pulling all of the strings. The boys don't live around here and visit a few times a year. IU has a plan in place for when he does return. They reserve two seats for him every game. They have a video already made for when he does show up. He will not speak, just stand and wave. It will be a surprise since Karen doesn't want the info to get out as it did for Saturday.

  2. My grandmother suffered from dementia. It is an unbelievable condition. I once had a two hour conversation with her while she thought I was someone else. Given his condition, there is no way Coach should be in public with his former players. That's just a travesty waiting to happen when he doesn't recognize them. Let him sit up in those club seat behind the baseline and stand up and be acknowledged by the crowd. Fisher can announce his stats, they can put a video up on the board, the crowd can go nuts, and we are done. A quick 5 min before tip off.

  3. Lol yeah dude only won 2 NCAA Championships. Integrated Big Ten basketball and iirc served his country. Clearly doesn’t deserve to be honored

  4. Did anybody see at about the 11 minute mark in the first half when there was a loose ball on the floor Ohio State picked it up and Archie went ballistic and slapped the scorers table and just ripped Franklin for not diving for the ball. Franklin was immediately yanked and didn’t play the rest of the game. That play ended in a shot clock violation for Ohio State but Archie was definitely living by his word...if you’re not gonna hustle, you’re not gonna play and it’s that simple. I LOVED that when I saw it happen. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

  5. The 'info' got out big time - not just on message boards, but in the press. I definitely understand Mrs. Knight's insistance on keeping things under the radar. Thinking back to the story about his attendance at the baseball game last summer, it happened with a lot of secrecy. It's a difficult set of circumstances - fans would love to see him there, but his situation has to take priority. I trust any insiders will keep 'mum' about any future plans for him making an appearance. (I'm not criticizing anyone who forwarded the info, it surely stoked interest and enthusiasm for it to happen.)

  6. You actually bring up a great point about Knights ties to education. Many coaches it’s superficial where as with Knight it was part of his core. Id put up two statues one at assembly hall another at the library. And then make a path connecting it. And line it with his teams athletic and academic accomplishments on stone tablets. Call it the Robert Knight path of Excellence.

  7. I believe the criticism of De'ron is justified, but I also think it's understandable to an extent as to why he does what he does. He has had one of the most unfortunate careers for an IU player in recent memory. High 4 star player coming out of high school, committed to a coach who was fired, enrolled late his freshman year, was hyped to be the man going into Archie's first year only to lose that role to Juwan, as well as tear his achilles, on top of numerous seasons not making the NCAA tournament. Despite the lack of production on the court, I believe he still has a large voice in the locker room. He has 2 options in my eyes: 1) Accept the role he has on the team, play smart, fundamental bball when he gets in, and help be a voice of leadership for the remainder of the season to help the team maximize its potential. OR option 2) Continue to be mad at his role on the team, play hero ball when he gets out on the floor causing him to pick up 2 quick fouls and provide no leadership. Colin Hartman faced a similar situation and we saw how he handled it. I went to my first game ever at Assembly Hall when they played Arkansas. I got their early to watch warm ups. I sat and watched De'ron shoot corner 3's for 10 minutes straight (a 50% free throw shooter) cracking jokes with teammates, while Joey and Trayce practiced free throws and post moves. This as well as other stories mentioned shows me his commitment level to the team and winning. Hope he is able to turn the corner because I think his leadership, or lack there of, could be very integral to IU's success for the remainder of the season.

  8. Assembly Hall (old habit -- I hate calling it Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall) is a pretty big building. If memory serves (I have been in Bloomington just once since graduating in 1991), it also has ticket offices and most (if not all) of the athletic offices. So in essence, it's more than just a basketball building. If they wanted to, they could do something like this: Once you pass through the doors and into the part of the building where the basketball games are played, you could be entering Bob Knight Arena at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. Don't know if the Skjodt family would go for that -- or if the Knights would -- but it's just a thought ...

  9. That's exactly what I'd hope for...no speeches or anything just a wave and tribute will be more than enough to heal old wounds and IU can FINALLY fully move on.

  12. I said before the Northwestern game that IU needed to win 3 out of the next 4 games to really feel good about their ability to get enough wins for the tournament. I also said they at minimum they had to get 2/4. Well they have won the first two with a huge opportunity to get number 3 in either of the next two games. I have no confidence they will win at Rutgers. That is not a slight to IU as much as it is a credit to Rutgers and the BIG. But if this team plays like it did Saturday I am very confident they will beat Nebraska. That would put them at 14-4 (4-3) which would be huge going into the rest of the schedule. Go Hoosiers.

  13. Haven't been on as much as I'd like to be. All I can say is if Rob Phinisee can play at or near the level he did on Saturday, this is a Top 20 team. Big week for IU. Two road games at good, but beatable Rutgers and Nebraska. Will be thrilled if they go to 2-0. The Big Ten is drunk this year. Starting 5-2 with home games against Michigan State and Maryland next would be huge. It is fair to keep in mind expectations. I thought this team would hover around .500 in the Big Ten this year. Figured that would be good for an NCAA Tournament appearance.

  15. I always respected Coach Knight's knowledge more than his methods. Whether he comes back or not is entirely up to him. If he does, he pretty clearly is not who he was when he left. I try to give him credit for the good things he did at Indiana while having compassion for what he is going through now. Those comments from Dakich are not a good look from him.

Even if it was just a token press, I was really glad to see Archie bring that back against OSU after it worked so well the last 10 minutes against NW. Sometimes just mixing things up a bit during a game can swing momentum, I just hope we keep doing it because it hasn’t happened often in the Archie era. It’s like a football team who’s offense has stalled most of the game, then they come out in a no huddle and it kickstarts everything.

  17. That’s utter crap. If we’d lost the home games to Nebraska or NW, those would’ve been bad losses. But we didn’t lose those games. If a team is gonna lose 8-12 games, losses like Wisky and Maryland on the road are the exact definition of “not a bad loss”.

  18. The best way to not have it made into a spectacle is to have it really planned out, both IU and the Knight family have everything approved, including the date. It becomes a spectacle if he just shows up, ultimately sending the IU admin into scramble mode. That's when mistakes and rash decisions get made. Agree on where he'll sit, what is/isn't allowed in terms of TV cameras, media, jumbotron etc. and have the video approved and ready to roll, agree on the date, and then it's super simple.

  20. Dang -- a double OT road loss to a 13-3 team and we drop three spots. Tough crowd! ... The good news, if there is any? South Carolina is now No. 1. The Gamecocks are 16-1. Gee, can you guess who dealt them that loss? So, we can say we've beaten the top-ranked team in the land. Which leads me to believe if we're playing our best, we can compete with anybody!

  23. I will go back to my algorithm (which not unlike the NET I won't reveal to any of you).... It did fail me last game but that was good news for the Hoosiers... So.... I think in general we are about on the same level as Rutgers (we are better offensively if you can believe it, but they are better defensively).... They are at home (-3), we haven't shown the ability to play multiple good games in a row (-2), the rotation didn't "really" get shortened (-1), but they are still RUTGERS (+3) IU 64 Rutgers 67

  28. I think we’re going to see a ton of similar resumes come selection Sunday. I don’t have a feel on who would clearly be worthy of a top 4 seed, the next group, and then the bubble teams. It seems like the entirety of college basketball could be a 1 seed in one game and miss the tourney in the next. Baffling! Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

  30. In my opinion Rutgers shouldn’t be lumped into the same group as Nebraska or northwestern this year. If you would of said Rutgers at home is a bad loss then I would maybe agree but losing to them on the road wouldn’t be considered a bad loss for me at least. I watched Seton Hall get drilled earlier in the year and Seton Hall is a really good team. At least for this year Rutgers is playing at a level that is more in line with the middle of the B1G instead of the bottom. Just my opinion Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

  31. Personally, I don't want us to be ranked at this point. The mental fortitude of this team is rather week. I don't think they can handle the added pressure of being ranked. Moreso when they play on the road. We've always (for the most part) been an above average home team. Just my $0.02.

Thinking about it watching MSU it occurs to me the formula for a consistent program might be to recruit the most talented, but undersized PG available every three years. The only difference between MSU and the rest of the conference, is their best player stayed 4 years (Winston) while other teams lose momentum to the NBA draft every couple years. Duke kind of benefited from that model for a while too, with Reddick, then Grayson Allen, and now Jones. We had Yogi. Maybe that should be a new practice of our recruiting. Grab the best PG under 6 feet available every time we can.

  35. Got to watch most of the game. Iowa got away with a ton of physical play that IU didn’t. IU was also done in by some bad shots and some very stagnant offensive possessions when it really mattered. Like others said, this was a game IU should have won, but just couldn’t pull it out. Not inside info or anything just what I’ve seen on twitter....From what I’ve read....looks like Teagardin(SP?) will move to special teams, and looks like IU is close to getting Jason Jones. Was a DB coach at Ole miss....this past season he was at FAU. Looks like a good recruiter from what I’ve found....he would be the new safeties coach.
