NEW ALBANY – Archie Miller ate Monday night at Janko's Little Zagreb, Bloomington's most popular steak house. He brought his coaching staff, and St. Mary's grad transfer Evan Fitzner. 

And if he didn't know where Romeo Langford committed, during a ceremony held at New Albany High School — Langford said afterward he didn't tell any of the coaches recruiting him before he announced — then the applause that broke out across the restaurant will have clued Miller in.

Probably also wouldn't help anyone to say he's known for 3 weeks and decided to wait just so he could have this big announcement at the end of the month.

I'm gonna share a little advice from Aaron Rodgers for all those getting all huffy about what's being said on other fan boards or what people are writing about Romeo and/or IU or his dad: R-E-L-A-X. (And as a Bears fan for 40-plus years, it pains me to quote Aaron Rodgers). 

Go back and read what was said here about Darius Garland after he picked Vanderbilt. Or read all the mud slinging at Bryce Drew and Bill Self. It's all gonna be OK. Don't worry about what they're writing on other fan boards -- why even go there anyway?. What did you expect them to write? Just enjoy the moment. Let it go. 

We just got the No. 5 player overall in the country -- and No. 1 at his position. And just a few months ago, we weren't even on his radar. Kudos to Archie and his staff for a remarkable effort. I'm pretty damn excited about next season.

To be fair, if I was a top recruit Purdue would have to pay me to go there too.  Why would I, as a top recruit, want to go to college where the co-eds look like livestock if I wasn't being paid?

No doubt.  What I've found amusing is how over the past year or so the theme on PU boards is how they've been dominant while we've been noncompetitive.  While, with the previous 3 coaches we had haven't been consistently good, you could argue that we've actually fared similarly to PU.  Since 2000 they've been to 5 s16's to our 4.  They made it to the e8 once and we made it to the championship game once.  Both teams have 3 BT titles (each with only 2 in the last 10 years).  IMO, that's remarkably similar and yet it's something for them to crow about.  Now we clearly have our the best coach since Knight, are beginning to finally bring in top in-state players and still appeal to other highly rated players while PU continues to attract second shelf and below prospects.

We can see it with the players that have already committed and high interest from several high level kids - we're primed to become perennial contenders while PU will continue to occasionally have a nice season now and then.  Basically our floor is level with their ceiling and Archie has begun to move us up.
