Pretty much like I said that IU wanted to talk to McCollum in person in St. Louis, and he said not right now. We hired DeVries instead. Their AD goes into great detail on the process. You don't see this very often.

Yep.  Honestly I didn’t get much from that, Pete seems like a nice guy but he doesn’t bring much out of his interviewees.  I’m still not entirely clear on CDD’s vision for the program, but it will be pretty clear in three weeks.

Sometimes I think we overcomplicate things looking for an out of the box personality.

My take on Devries after watching that video? A nice guy that discusses things in a logical, sane way. The proof of his and his staff's competence will be reflected on the court; until then we'll speculate, but the result and performance is all that will matter,

I've got no issue with CDD, I just wanted Pete to ask some more follow-up questions and dig deeper.  Same thing with his Mendoza interview.  It doesn't really matter just a preference from random anon fan.

Seems about right.  Amazing in a way how much it came down to the wire.  I could imagine this being a stressful search for Dolson.  We will get to find out soon how much juice the hire has.

As much hate as the Hysterics get, they are generally very good in interviews.  They've improved actually, less of the odd cringey stuff from when they first started.  But for a while now, I think they do a really great job of getting the interviewee to open up and have some fun.  That being said, I don't need to see DDV on the Hysterics.  But their interviews are enjoyable.

I agree. I'm not a big fan of Pete doing the interviews. I'm probably wrong, but he doesn't come off as a former athlete or a big sports guy. 

He's a money guy. These interviews just don't do much for me. I listened anyway just wish they would get someone else to do them.

Agreed. Definitely better than a lot of the bait and switch crap out there in the ether. I still only listen if folks here give the particular show a seal of approval though

They do have some that Miller Kopp was doing for the Player's Perspective, and he was actually not to bad coming from the athlete perspective of asking questions.  I don't expect them to really dig deep like you would with someone who has been doing it for several years like a Bryant Gumbel for example.  It is pretty cool to get this side of them though.

Seems like Drake is becoming a stepping stone to a Big Ten job. Last three coaches -- Medved, DeVries, and McCollum -- all entering the Big Ten this year.

He kinda comes off as a very principled person in a couple of interviews that I have heard with him, so this doesn't surprise me.  I suppose we will see if the right decision was made in the long run. FYI, I believe that the correct one was made.

I think you'd get more of what you're looking for if they did another one of these in maybe a month and a half or two months when the staff is filled and at least most of the roster is filled out. 

Then DeVries could speak on specific staff members and what they'll bring to the table and talk specifics on players and how they'll be used in his system. 

Would love to see another one of these sometime in mid-May or something.

I’m sure I missed your post previously but I don’t understand the timeline based on what the AD says here.

Why did IU need to interview him in STL? He had a week after the MVCT until Selection Sunday.  Sounds like he talked to Iowa during that week.  Sorry that I missed it but why couldn’t IU wait until those days after the Valley Tourney?

Note- I would be happy with either guy so this isn’t a complaint. Just curious.

Exactly how it sounds. Remember the joke about Woody handing off the keys yesterday? Well while that wasn't quite literal, Woody's office didn't come available until yesterday and DDV was working out of the players lounge.

Maybe I missed it but I didn't hear that he talked to anyone before they were done playing. I believe we had given someone a March 15 deadline to decide. 

We made the right choice, and it all worked out like it was supposed to.
