Darian DeVries - New IUBB Head Coach

Recommended Posts

Someone posted a while back that the most common trait of Nat'l Championship coaches is that they set a school record for wins at an earlier stop. Devries tied Drake's. He also had 3 NCAA trips in 6 years at a place that had only been there once in the prior 47 years. And during one of those trips, he lost by 7 to a Miami team that drilled IU the next game en route to the final four.

And at a school that won 9 games a year ago. If you can't see the difference between the seasons IU and West Virginia just had, I don't know what to tell you.

Same year end results. They just got slightly more screwed over by Bubba and Co. than us.

Well it looks like our pipeline will be SoCal academy Instead of Montverde Academy. Two of his three recruits for 2025 are from there. I wonder how many of those three he wants to bring m/how many of them want to come to IU. I just don’t know if he’s going to take 5 freshman or not. Or 6 if he can somehow work his magic on Mullins.

With Kevin Boyle's departure from Montverde, we may not have had nearly as good of a pipeline as we did.    Moving to Spire Academy in OH is a lot more convenient for us to make recruiting visits especially if he attracts the same level of talent.

If you don't want to believe Woodson's hire was forced by Quinn Buckner and his buddies, that's fine.

Definitely your prerogative.

I would like to believe that. But after the last two coaching searches, I'm just questioning a lot of the conventional wisdom message boards have been taking for granted regarding this program.

I’d never heard of Brad Underwood when he was hired. Again who cares? How many people mocked Cignetti for saying he was going to play in the B10 championship year 1 at IU (missed it due to tiebreak rules).

Really?  He had 3 years at SFA where his lowest win total in a year was 28 wins.  He was phenomenal before he got to Illinois.  One year at Ok St. with 20 wins.  I am not sure that’s the best example to prop up DeVries.

One of my final thoughts for the night, there will be no excuse to not make the dance next year. He will have the NIL to compete in the portal, zero excuses to miss.

Make the dance?????

How does he not have the same expectations that Woody had this year? Same NIL = Same expectations. Win conference and make a tourney run.

After a very disappointing season it’s good to see that we moved from a coach with  a 10-10 conference record, and barely missing the tourney, all the way up to a coach  with  a 10-10 conference record while barely missing the tourney.

Hey, cmon with the pessimism! Their barely miss was slightly closer than ours.

lol wow that's pretty wild if this guy had the scoop and Darian has been "Dolson's guy" all along.

I'm willing to believe that this has been in the works for weeks and the events of Selection Sunday accelerated the timeline.

I checked it on Twitter because I thought it could be a Photoshop. It isn't.

I think we should all be real on that one.  There is no long leash at IU.  It certainly won’t start now with a coach that won’t have the level of backing the last 4 had when they started.

There's conventional wisdom on message boards, then there's seeing something with your own eyes and putting 2 and 2 together...
