You can definitely take issue with some stuff in DeVries profile...

Not a super long time as a HC, not much to show in March, metrics are not great (nor terrible)

Flip side, relatively young P5 coach, bringing talent with him. Basically built Drake after spending 17 years through the rise and sustained success at Creighton. At WVU, turned around a team that won single digit games and was snubbed by the committee so badly their AD is suing the NCAA. Left after one year because he wanted more resources to win. 

There's a lot to like about the hire too. As a fan, it's easy for me to be positive about this hire. I guess because I never believed in Stevens or bust. Sorry guys, not taking a shot at you. But it's clear expectations for many fans are way off about the program and if you're less inclined to support the program over this hire because you wanted a bigger name, I think you'd benefit from waking up soon.

If this is just the last straw after 25 years of mediocrity, that's different and understandable... but I think you'll feel much differently come this time next year.

I’m excited! Wasn’t my top choice, but he’s the best choice now because he’s the head coach. Let’s not be dick head fans that act like we’re smarter than the AD and everyone else involved in the hire, and let’s support the hell out of the head coach of the IU Hoosiers and every damn one of his staff and players. So, in the CSB category, I feel a lot better about this hire. A guy in my neighborhood went to WV (was a walk-on back in the 80s there) and called me when he heard the news. He was pissed. He described just how bad they were last year (I get it. I can look at the record) and was feeling down after having Huggins so long. He was ecstatic about DeVries, and he didn’t disappoint. Exceeded all expectations by a lot. When I told him a good number of IU fans (including me) wanted a more homerun hire, he (lovingly) told me GFY because you have a guy who is going to be great at IU.

Also, I love that McDermott called him a grinder. That may seem like weird praise but exactly how I want our coach described.

So let’s hit the portal and recruiting hard and win some MFing games.

A lot of feelings on this hire

Sadness that muskies goat died for nothing

Optimism that devries will be a grinder and is a coach that has actually coached college basketball

Acceptance that if usps likes him, then that is good enough for me

I really wanted McCollum. I believe deeply that he was the best coach and a generational guy. Nothing about Devries makes me feel that he’s the guy to get us back to consistently being at the top of the B1G. Hope I’m wrong.

I also spoke with my WVU friends and they were heartbroken. So that excited me!
